I Built an Atmosphere Engine for My Dining Room... I transformed an ordinary dining room into an immersive smart room that can become a board-game world, haunted mansion, railway carriage, fantasy tavern, cosy restaurant or thousands of other scenes at the tap of a button. This DIY dining-room makeover combines six Samsung The Frame TVs, Home Assistant, Philips Hue smart lighting, multi-screen sound, mini PCs and a custom locally hosted web app called Roomscape. Together, they control digital artwork, music, animated weather, lighting, sound effects, family photos, educational displays and completely immersive environments. In this video, I show how I designed and built the room, concealed the technology inside custom cabinets and created an adaptable entertainment space for board games, family dinners, birthdays, Christmas, Halloween and parties. I also share what I learned about immersive room design—and why sometimes the most subtle effects are the most effective.
