wthsutton:
“That show had it’s moments.” She mused, not admitting that there was truth to it. She looked at the book in his hands with complete curiosity. Stepping closer she asked, “What is it?”
He closed the book and read the tittle out loud, “Tracing a Trace Without Being Traced, Amongst Other Things,” he scrunched his nose, turning cover and his attention back to her, “for, you know, educational purposes.”
ivywalsh:
“No — you can’t make me get up, I don’t wanna get out of bed. My blanket is my friend and it is keeping me very warm. You can either choose to join me or get out. If you choose the latter of the two please bring back pancakes when you finally decide to join me.”
“Sorry there, buttercup, but the cleaning company is here and is asking everyone to evacuate the rooms, something about a mouse or something.”
wthsutton:
“Oh, come on.” She threw her hands down at her sides, into balls of fists, splashing the water like a child. “What happened to the whole thrilling attitude? Scared that Captain Cutler’s Ghost from Scooby Doo will come get ya’?” She added a pout.
“Well I wasn’t before, but I definitely am now, now that you mention it. I had nightmares about him you know, scary, horrible, cartoon themes nightmares.” He smiled and shrugged, keeping his eyes on his book, “And hey, I’m plenty thrilling okay. See this, right here,” he tapped the cover of his book with his index finger, “thrilling.”
ohcalder:
“Something just touched my leg–!”
Ronan came up for air, cackling to himself at Calder’s expense. “Maybe is was the Lochness monster man, heard he prefers lakes as it is.”
charlie-the-one-and-only:
Charlie dug around in her purse, grabbing the pack of cigarettes and taking one out. She placed it between her lips and dug around a bit more, trying to find a lighter. Realizing she left it at home, she rolled her eyes and glanced at the person a few feet away, taking the cigarette out of her mouth and holding it between two fingers, “Do you have a lighter?”
Ronan looked up from his laptop, “A, huh? Oh, uh, yeah--” He stuck his hand in his left pocket, and then his right before he found the little green one he kept with him at all times. “Here,” he extended his hand towards her, lighter first.
brightandclaire-hayden:
Claire was now walking through the woods, after decisively grabbing her bow and arrow and setting out. She had vague memories of coming out here and practicing her archery back when she was younger and just starting out. After she found a spot she liked that wouldn’t get anyone killed, she put her gear on and loaded her bow. Suddenly, she heard footsteps behind her and she quickly turned to point her bow and arrow at the source of the noise. “So, did you wake up today and decide, ‘I’m gonna sneak up on a girl with a bow and arrow in her hands, great idea me, high five’,” She asked sarcastically, still aiming at the person, “Or was it just impulse?”
“Impulse, definitely impulse!” Ronan called out from behind the tree he had jumped to for cover. He stepped out of the trees shadow and walked towards her, “Well, well, well, looks like you’re more agent than you let on, Agent G.”
sethmarsters:
Seth stepped out of his room and arched his back as he stretched. With a yawn, he walked down the hallway and into the kitchen to find something to eat. “Ugh, is there anything but cereal in this damn house?” he muttered to himself.
Ronan poked his head out from one of the cupboards he had been digging in for the past ten minutes, “I mean, I found some sleepy time tea and crackers, if you’re interested.”
wthsutton:
“Look- I’m a little drunk and I’m a little half-naked. The least you could do is get your ass in here with me.”
Ronan turned in the direction he heard Sutton’s voice coming from, quickly darting his eyes back to coding book in his hands, “You know, I think I’m good here, doing just fine, perfectly a-okay!”
“And how many times did you try and win?” Alissa questioned, raising an eyebrow. She knew Ronan tried to lighten things up for her, he always did. But he walked on eggshells around her, just like everyone else did. It had only been a few months since Alissa had lost Jackson and she was still fragile. “Fine, fine.” She replied, acting like she wasn’t excited to get it, but once it was in her arms she couldn’t help but let a big grin slip on to her face. “Thanks,”
“Hey, hey--it’s not about where I’ve been, it’s about where I ended up. And you’re very welcome,” Ronan said with a smile on his face. He threw his arm around her shoulder and led the two of them mindlessly away from the booth, “So how’ve ya been Lis? And I mean, really been,” he added with some seriousness in his tone.
Everyone knows everything about everyone in this town, yet at the same time, no one really knows...
“What the fuck do you think you’re doin’?” Jacob turned, eyes dragging from the screen of his phone to the person in front of him, in their hands the cables attaching his wifi hub to the power socket. “Plug that fucker back in now before I plug those cords up your ass and turn on the socket.”
“Just one second, just one second...” Ronan waved off the boys complaints as he went on to plug in his own router to send out a message of success to a client. He clicked away at his keyboard, trying to keep within the delicate time frame to prevent the tracking he knew would ensue if he wasn’t quick enough. With a final combination of key strokes, he shut down his laptop and unplugged his equipment. “See? Done.”
“Woah woah–What’s with all the questions? Wait..Is this a game show? Am I getting filmed?” Bella looked around; her alcohol making her a little more hyper then usual. “But uh..My dad was an army man..and I wanted to do the same kind of thing. What do you do? You look like a pretty hot elementary school teacher..From all my fantasies–I’m going to shut up now.”
He shook his head, “No game show, just a curious mind, that’s all.” Ronan nodded as she told him about her father, it made sense enough, not only that but he’d read it about ten times. His thoughts were cut short as he was caught off guard by her last comment, him sputtering in his beer a little. “A hot elementary teacher, huh? I’m going to need this, that’s for sure.” He took a long drink from his pint, leaving it at the halfway mark when he was done. “You really had those teacher fantasies?” He asked lightly, more curious and amused about this now than any job he had burning in his back pocket.
She heard his mumbling but didn’t quite understand what it meant, or what it was but she quickly blew it off when he introduced himself. With a wide smile, she took his hand and shook it. “Correct.” She replied not a moment too soon. “It’s nice to meet you, Ronan.” There was something that she felt from him that she didn’t know how to describe. It was like familiarity, which was strange as they’ve never met before. Letting go of his hand and dropping hers to the side, she looked around the festival. “You enjoying yourself? I mean, I wouldn’t know how enjoyable it is when you’re on the run for scaring people.” She teased lightly.
“I’m very much enjoying myself, I love coming to these things, never know who you’re going to run into, you know?” He flashed a smile, his mind may have been running at million miles a minute, but he was going to be cool about this. “And it’s not so much for the scare of people, more of the...thrill. But whatever, it didn’t exactly work out anyway so everyone is safe and thrill-less. Are you enjoying yourself, or more are you finding yourself thrilless?”
“I am attempting at no such thing. You can trust me to show you the fun and loose side of things,” She turned toward him, “Welcome to the carefree side, that vat of sea salt caramel has been waiting for you,” The worker finally agreed, accepting the amount of money Claire was willing to give. When he finally pulled the vat free of the freezer, he set it on the counter, the loud noise of it landing rang out, “I swear this isn’t as weird as it looks,” Claire promised the worker, although he didn’t seem convinced as he ran her debit card. “No double agent business here, I am only trying to show you adventure. How can you face daring missions without ever knowing if you’re capable of eating an entire vat of ice cream? Which you’re carrying, by the way.”
With a smile, and a groan, Ronan took the the vat in his hands and gave his best ‘I can’t believe you let her do this’ face to the worker behind the stand. In return he got a smug shrug and Ronan turned to be on his way. He spotted a nearby table and headed towards it, “I never knew my ice cream eating abilities would determine my mission statistics.” He gave a dreadful look at the vat as he set it down. “Alright, but here’s the deal, every bite I take you answer a ridiculous question of mine, deal?” He reached over and grabbed a spoon from the dispensary and held it up expectantly as he waited for her answer.
“Oh, hi there!” Marilyn chirped as she turned around to face the person who had spoken up. “I apologize, I’m just trying to get some more information about the town, and this gentleman hasn’t exactly been helpful.” she laughed lightly. “Any way you could help me out?”
Ronan smiled at the woman when she finally recognized he had been trying to get her attention, “Yeah, I could tell just by walking by the guy had no idea what he was talking about.” He turned his attention to the man who was obviously just trying to score, “I got this dude, you can try your luck else where, huh champ?” With a smile he waked up towards her, “Where do you need to go?”
“Oh, please just call me Bella, good sir” Bella pretended she had a top hat, and stuck out her tongue giggling. She sipped her drink as she slid on the barstool. “Don’t like fairs. They remind me of horror films; you don’t know if a crazy saw guy is gonna’ run and kill us all…But don’t like ‘em.” She tilted her head. “And..to be honest; I start my job as a new cop tomorrow..and..I just wanna get loose…very loose…What about you specs’?”
Ronan took a long drink from his beer, peeking over the rim of both his cop and glasses, chuckling at the nickname she gave him before continuing, “A cop, huh? I mean, don’t take this the wrong way, but you don’t look like the type to get into the task force. Not like ‘not get in’ but more of, like someone who’d be even interested in that line of work. What’s the appeal?”
