Princess? What kind of guy was he, to call her that? And what area of town had she gotten lost in to run into a guy like him, too? But… at least he spoke English. That saved her a lot of grief. Holding her dictionary close, Natalie thought over his offer for a moment. She really did need to learn how to read and all around understand the language quicker and by herself, but… it was kind of hard to do if she got herself lost.
She sighed, eventually giving in. “I’m trying to find the big library in town,” she told him, speaking in her own native English now, hoping he could understand her despite her Brooklyn accent. “I… wrote down directions, but…” She flushed with embarrassment. “I forgot that the street signs were written in… in Japanese, not romanji like I was expecting…” Even just hearing that from herself make Natalie realize how stupid she was. Dammit.
“At least you made an effort to learn romanji though,” Yusuke praised, giving her a sympathetic smile. “That’s more than a lot of tourists can say. Some just show up and hope everything will be in English. And then they are confused when it isn’t.” He extended his crepe-free hand towards her, and beckoned. “Can I see the directions you wrote down? I can figure out where you are going, and then take you there.” To be quite honest, he wanted to get to know the stranger a bit more too. And make sure she got to where she needed to be safe and sound.
After all, what kind of gentleman would he be if he turned his back on a lady in distress? That was not how his father had raised him...
