i wanna talk for just a minute about mason. if you don’t think that mason still eats up rose on the inside to this VERY day, this very minute... you are wrong. mason was one of the only people outside of lissa that she felt like she could turn to. she literally held his body even as the strigoi were gone. she held him as the other guardians arrived. it took dimitri literally pulling rose off of him.

i don’t think that rose has any clear memories of killing the strigoi that killed mason. i think she remembers having mia’s help, but that’s about it. in fact, she sometimes wonders if she made up mia being there, but ofc mia would never let her forget that. 

then the plane ride home... trying to push everyone away, even dimitri & lissa. it ends up being her MOTHER who has to calm her. even though her mom has always been cold & distant, she explains to rose that she understands: first kills, first losses... they are hard, no matter the person. it’s the first time she sees her mother give any emotion, & it helps rose remember the goal she’s always had:

protect lissa. protect her whatever it takes, no matter who it takes.
