So I need to rant a little, about college
I understand that I am a transfer student, coming in as a junior and not knowing anyone.
I understand that people already have their little cliques, their groups, and their friends with inside jokes. I get that.
But is it really so hard to accept another person, who you will be working with on shows for the next 2 years? (I’m a theatre major)
When working on shows, the techs generally get very close and become friends. I have with every production I have been on, whether in school or not.
I also have a lot of classes with these people.
They are nice enough to talk to me when I’m the only one in the room (some of them. others just ignore me like I’m not even there, even though we are the only two people in the fucking room)
They will say hi, smile when we pass. (Once again, only about 3 or 4 of the people in the theatre program do this)
But once their “real” friends show up, I’m back to being invisible. When I try to integrate myself into a converstation, because HELLO I’M STANDING RIGHT HERE, they fall silent and look at me like I’m crazy and I just spoke gibberish.
I am a friendly person. But around these people, I don’t want to be friendly and keep getting shot down. I am getting more and more closed off, and it’s not fun.
I know one girl here, we went to high school together and were very good friends back then. She does the same thing; talk to me when no one else is around, when her real friends show up then she freaking ignores me.
It is so frustrating, and some days I just don’t want to be here because it feels so pointless. This was my dream school; but based on the way these people act here I would rather go back home to state school where the people are a lot more friendly, which is saying something because I’m from fucking Las Vegas.
why are people so damn unnaccepting? I am not some freak. I dress normal, I take showers every day and do my hair. I don’t wear crazy makeup. I am normal, compared to some of the people in the theatre department. So then why is it so hard to accept me? I am not antisocial- I have had friends before.
Does anyone else get this?
