Little note today guys.

I'm nearly done editing V1 while dealing with work and life and all that, but today I had to go to hospital following a seizure and I am still suffering from them.

I just wanted to make a post to let ppl know and to say thanks for all those who've stuck around and those who've sent in asks. I'm still loving AZRE more than most works I've ever done and whole the process is slow and haphazard, I will see the day I finish this story.

When you're writing how industries allow abuses to go without punishment if there isn't sufficient evidence to their liking but you REALLY need the V1 antagonist to get beaten to death with hammers-

If I may ask, what motivated you to do a whole rewrite/reboot?

So I was going to split AZRE into its respective Volumes to make it easier to read, and then I had ideas of what I wanted to do differently/add mroe foreshadowing and leads in the earlier volumes to feed into the later ones, or just remove characters like Ghira since I was growing more dissatisfied with the idea of having to write him lol

So it's a few things really, but V1 is actually nearly done since I've been editing when I'm not in work!

Oh, there's only 3 Marrón siblings; Chase, Roxanne and Aurora. Though fun trivia fact: there was originally meant to be more Marrón siblings in the early drafts of AZRE before I started streamlining them down. Pretty late into the story building, there was actually 4 Marrón siblings with a middle brother between the twins and Aurora named David.

He was originally meant to be Grimmified while Roxanne just died in the FOB, but then I decided to axe him and had Roxanne be captured and thought dead, only to come back as a Hound in the Chase Interquel.

So all that's left of the big group once thought are three left but I love each and every one of them sm.

who is connley and what have you planned for him so far????

I will have drawings available soon but Connley is Aurora and Whitley's only child, and is one of the youngest of the cast. There's not much storywise yet but he is one of the only children from a SEW that doesn't have silver eyes themselves. He has Whitley's purple eyes.

But he's the opposite to Guiying. Whereas she is desperate to live up to the idealised heroes in her head, and sees her lack of silver eyes to be a curse, Connley doesn't. He was raised to live a happy life from two people who had horrible upbringings. Both Whitley's entire childhood living under Jacques and dealing with the death of Willow, and Aurora losing her entire family and being raised as basically a bioweapon at the age of 12.

And they're happy that Connley doesn't have silver eyes, that he won't feel the pressure of having to protect people because of something he was born with. And while Ruby and Sun try to teach Guiying that, her own story in the sequel is her overcoming that flaw after making some serious mistakes.

Why did you pick Illia as the Winter Maiden? I can understand Yang and Pyrrha and Emerald, but what about Illia? What reason is there for her to become the Winter Maiden? Was it random or chosen?

Originally in AZRE, it was going to be Winter who became the Winter Maiden in kinda a reverse of what happened in canon. Winter becomes the Maiden and ultimately makes it about her choice in doing so, choosing these powers not because of Ironwood or Salem, but because she wants to help and she will do it this way.

In the rewrite, I decided that ultimately Winter's story can end in a number of ways, including her choosing not to be the Winter Maiden. It's made more obvious during the Atlas Arc but Winter choosing her own happiness and refusing the powers can honestly be just as rewarding for her because finally she is choosing what she wants; and that's ultimately to stay just herself and be with her family rather than proceed further into being a glorified chess piece against Salem.

Like yes, Ironwood and Winter do care about each other and he's not conciously manipulating her. It's not a clear case of evil general and poor Winter, they both agreed that it made sense in their situation and Ironwood would have to give up his mother, Cailleach, while she's at her most vulnerable with dementia.

But that still puts a lot of pressure on Winter and honestly? I wanted her to finally be happy lmao.

Now why Ilia? Her story is all about reclaimation. Of her life, of her culture, of her freedom. She was forced into conformity under Atlas from birth, she had to go to a school that forced her to hide both her Faunus AND Native heritage, she had no freedom in the White Fang because Kaanchana quickly gave her to Cinder without even telling Ilia beforehand.

And the Winter Maiden powers were within the Solitese natives hold for milennia before Cailleach became the Maiden following her friend Tahki's sudden death. It makes sense not only for a story about minorities taking back their rights/culture/homelands, but for Ilia's story of reclaimation.

The last Winter Maiden is of the Solitese people.

Did you give Summer curly hair outside of just so Ruby doesn’t look like a 2.0 of her but also Yang can realistically think Summer was her mother too given they both have curly bushy hair?

Yes! It was partly because I wanted to differentiate Ruby from Summer and also based Summer off a few Irish friends I have that have very similar hair texture to Summer!

I do love the idea that Yang would think Summer would be her bio mother when she was younger and she just took more after Taiyang, and intentionally styles her hair when she's older to have more curls like Summer. They just have different hair texture so it looks slightly different.

what is the mistral empire like in the sequel? especially with the empress's family?

Well the Empress passes away during the time skip between the main story and the sequel, with Qiujun succeeding the throne instead. And really, he's very similar to his mother in ways of ruthlessness and detachment from other people... except for one.

That was Seigyoku. Even decades after her death, Qiujun is impacted by her brief teachings and kindness and that pushed him to reconsider how Mistral treated the Faunus. Even with the outcry over it, he made sure that the Faunus that were relocated from Mistral were welcomed back to their ancestral homeland and tried to keep an open mind when offering allyship to other parts of Anima like Phon Lan and the Khangris Steppe/Mountains.

He's by no means perfect and is an Emperor without an Empress or heir because of his inability to allow anyone get so close following the traumatic childhood he had, but there are parts that do try and it is because of one Faunus woman who treated him as a person all those years ago.

how does qrow feel about winter?

Ultimately, Qrow is a very loving person and Winter is one of those people on his list of those he loves the most.

The issue is that he is so emotionally damaged from his past and constantly on edge because of his Semblance that he pushes everyone he cares about away. Chances are if he lets you get close physically to him, he doesn't actually care that much if the bad luck gets you.

With Winter, Qrow was honestly attracted to her physically only for that love to deepen very fast. He tries to keep his mystery and distance from her, but Winter's keen eye and refusal to back away from something only endeared her more to him. He finds that they both really are birds of a feather; two lonely people casted out, desperate for purpose and connections yet having been burned too many times to actually take that oppotunity.

He's one of the few people who knew about Willow, about Jacques' treatment of her, how her childhood was spent as basically an indentured servant and that made Qrow feel like finally someone might understand what he went through.

Because he too had been casted out. He too was put down by his parents, his tribe, even Raven in the end. No one wanted to be around the walking bad luck charm as much as they wanted to be around the Bastard Schnee.

But ultimately the growing connection was something that Qrow feared. He knew how close Winter was getting and even little things set him off; a broken glass here, a near miss there. And soon enough, he found that he was going to be a father with Winijay on the way.

That self hatred and lack of control that ironically fueled his Semblance's unpredicatbility pushed him away. And he left precisely because he cared so much about her; just like with Ruby and Yang, like with Taiyang and Summer.

So to him, Winter is just as much family to him as they are.

why is whitley's hair fully white as a young adult? did he dye it or is it The Traumas™️ prematurely graying them or something

Whitley dyes it when he's older to fully white to further distance himself from Jacques'. Even funnier since Aurora's natural brown hair turns white because of stress and the strain of her silver eyes, so she goes to dyeing it back to brown for some normality, even if she can't see it properly anymore.

Is that a Cerise plush Adam has? Where did he get it? Did he get it as a gift when she passed away or what exactly? Or is it just metaphorical that he still carries Cerise within him despite everything?

It pretty much is metaphorical rather than an actual plush that Adam has. All throughout the story, Cerise and her death has impacted Adam the most and pushes multiple choices that he makes as well as having directly led him towards the White Fang in the first place.

But her love and kindness has rubbed off on her son too. Even if Adam doesn't act like it half the time.

What is Whitley and Weiss's relationship like? Is there resentment on both their ends?

Whitley and Weiss are two Golden Children in different parts of its life. Weiss was the original, the heiress and progedy that Jacques puts all the attention and expectations on because he saw her as the future. Whitley, on the other hand, was pretty much the spare and left in the background, watching Weiss get everything that he wanted.

And that environment brewed competition and strained whatever relationship either of them could have. Whitley was driven by jealousy and a desire for affection, while Weiss simply saw him as someone in her shadow, but also someone who could very much step up if she faltered.

And that was what precisely happened when she chose to go to Beacon. In taking that one decision for herself, she opened a position that Whitley was all but eager to take advantage of. It led to her falling from Jacques' grace and Whitley being held up instead, that competition fueled by their father as he constantly held Weiss' decision and Whitley's achievements over her heads.

But he would also remind Whitley that his position at that moment was just as fragile as it was for Weiss. He knew that if he messed up, he would be at the bottom again.

So now the positions are flipped. Whitley is the prodegy while Weiss is the nuisance, and this gets even worse when she comes home and the possibility of his fall becomes more and more real. Her presence there is a constant reminder to him, even if Weiss is now in the mindset of not wanting to follow in her father's footsteps anymore.

There's also the same reason he hates Winter as mentioned in this ask. Winter came back for Weiss; trained her, guided her, but she did none of that for Whitley. So while he hates Winter for abandoning him, he hates Weiss for always being the one in the spotlight. The one everyone loves and dotes on while he was stuck in the background.

When she left for Beacon, it was a moment of relief that gave way to fear because now there was no barrier from Jacques' abuse. Deep down, Whitley does know that she had to deal with the same thing he does now, but it's twisted into blame because she left him to pick up the mess.

And Weiss at the point where she comes home after the Fall also does not like Whitley. While she doesn't see him in the exact same light as before, him copying Jacques' behaviours and thoughts puts her on edge and makes him untrustworthy to her, something that is even more sad because Whitley is only doing it to survive.

Thankfully, their relationship gets better when she comes back to Atlas with her team and they finally take care of Jacques.

Out of curiosity regarding the maidens. After Yang, Aurora, Emerald/Pyrrha and Illia pass away and such. Will the maiden powers continue onwards to new hosts or will it die forever with them now that Ozma isn’t around anymore?

Yes, the Maidens will cease when the last Maidens pass away but not because Ozma isn't around anymore. Though the curse ends at the end of the Next Gen story, Ozma wasn't the origin of the Maiden powers like he is in RWBY.

The Maiden powers come from his daughters after their deaths. Like I mentioned in another ask, magic can't be created or destroyed, only converted to another form or reverted to its previous one. When his daughters died in the fight with Salem, their powers escaped and chose new hosts.

Because their souls were used to make the relics, their powers can't go back to their original hosts because they're trapped. Only after the relics themselves were destroyed and the daughters freed were the powers able to reunite inside the body of the current Maiden.

So when they die, the soul of the daughter, and the powers that come with it, could finally move on to the afterlife and break the cycle. Which is why Yang/Aurora/Pyrrha/Emerald/Ilia are considered the last of the Maidens.
