Doesn’t take much to lend a hand.

First They Came for the Jews

Through repetition, Martin Niemoller conveyed the theme of discrimination in a strong matter. Niemoller was one of the few German’s who spoke out against the treatment of Jews. His opinions against the Nazi’s landed him in a concentration camp for almost 10 years. He believed that just because you don’t have the same beliefs it doesn't mean that you're not the same. A person is a person and if no one is treated equally eventually even the dominant belief will be turned against and no one would be left to save you because you never saved them.

What drove Richard to the point of killing Frank? Why would someone result to murdering when there are other options available? Why was he so obsessed with his ex wife?

IN THE BEDROOM TRAILER

After viewing the trailer for the movie, I evaluated the cast chosen. The cast members that play Frank and his girlfriend were a good choice because just heir looks alone shouted young, in love, and naive. His girlfriend was beautiful just like how I pictured while reading the story. Ruth and Matt were old and it was displayed that they had a complicated relationship. Ruth seemed troubles as she did in the story. The person I thought was best portrayed by the trailer was Richard. Richard sent chills down my spine. Overall, he was an extremely creepy person. He was obviously delusional; he was overprotective of his ex wife and was jealous of Frank. He showed anger by slamming his fist of the table while talking to Mary Ann. I think the movie would represent the movie as best as it could. The story jumped around a lot and was hard to follow, but the movie could easily do flash backs to show was Matt was thinking. So with that, I think the film production will make it better that the story. It’ll give a more inside look until Matt mind as well as have more time to get to understand the characters.

Title

I believe the title of the short story is called “The Killings” instead of “Killers” because the central idea of the story is about killers. But about the killings or two people. It did not focus on Matt and Willis as killer, but more on the fact that the killing of one led to the killing or another in return.

Justice or Revenge

Whats the difference?

In my opinion the difference between Justice and Revenge is that Justice is fair. Justice is served to those who deserve is. Justice is often determined by the court of law when someone commits a crime. Justice is also not extreme, it can vary from community service to life in jail. Revenge is not as kind. Revenge is when someone sets out to hurt or harm someone else because of their crimes committed. Revenge is meant to cause suffering to.

Questions

Why did the Misfit save the Grandmother for last? Why’d he waste time talking to her instead of just killing her? What’s the significance of Red Sammy encounter?

The Misfit

-He disobeys conventional morals

-Considers himself in not need of morals

-acts how he pleases and doesn’t feel the need for his own salvation.

Nihilism

the rejection of all religious and moral principles, often in the belief that life is meaningless.

To kill a Mockingbird

This movie is based on the book, “To Kill a Mockingbird” written by Harper Lee. The story takes place during the Great Depression in Maycomb, Alabama about the Finches who are a family of three, Atticus, the widowed father who is also a lawyer, Scout, who is his daughter, and Jem, his son. Scout and Jem befriend a “ghost” nicknamed Boo, Boo leaves the children gifts in a knothole of a tree by a haunted house. During all of this, their father, Atticius, defends a black man against false assumptions of rape in court. Because of racism, the children are targeted and abused by others. Despite being innocent, the gentleman is convicted and later tries to escape jail. In doing so, he was shot and kill. The children are impacted by this trail and lose their faith in the justice system. The father that accused the black man of raping his daughter, isn’t happy with the way Atticus embarrassed him in court and set out to attack Scout and Jem. He almost succeeded until the “ghost” Boo came and protected the children. The children realizes their “ghost” is actually a real man and no matter the stories they were told Boo is a human being too. Scout learned that hatred and prejudice would not change he faith with human kindness.

This movie is a Southern Gothic because it has a haunted house as well as a “ghost.” As well as terrifying encounters- the death of the innocent and near death experience for the children.

genre of Southern writing. The stories often focus on grotesque themes. While it may include supernatural elements, it mainly focuses on damaged, even delusional, characters

- The whole story is filled with delusional characters. The Grandmother is delusional because she is convinced that she is a good and proper lady, It is then proven that she is not. The Misfit is also delusional because he kills and believes it’s the right thing to do. He does an over analysis on everything and is not socially acceptable.

GROTESQUE

comically or repulsively ugly or distorted.- Many things throughout this literary piece is ugly. The death of children is considered very distorted and horrible to put in a story. As well as a horrible car crash.
