2020 ...... Well what a year it’s turning out to be. Giving birth and bringing a baby into the world during a global pandemic has been a crazy whirlwind experience of every emotion possible. I pray that we are able to move out of this time stronger than ever. My parents taught me, stressful times like these are “Character Building”. An attitude of gratitude means making it a habit to express thankfulness and appreciation in all parts of your life, on a regular basis, for both the big and small things alike. “ If you concentrate on what you have, you'll always have more. 31 weeks pregnant 🤰 On the whole, I’ve had a great pregnancy. I’ve eaten healthily - with Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas thrown in the mix! 😬 I’ve had some treats here and there but everything in moderation, nothing in excess. ‘Eating for two’ is totally a myth and only makes it harder to lose the weight post pregnancy. I’m being closely monitored by the hospital as I had ‘Actute Fatty Liver Syndrome’ with my first pregnancy. I have a 25% chance of it happening again but then 75% I’ll have a healthy pregnancy and delivery. 👶 I have learned a lot since my previous pregnancy. I’m more in tune with my body, rest when I need to, eat foods that serve my body and limit processed and artificial foods. I keep myself well hydrated, take my prenatal vitamins, pre & probiotics and molecules to keep my immune system strong and me healthy. I’m bigger second time round. I’m bigger now than I was at 35 weeks with my first but the American healthcare system is not as concerned with weight gain as the French. In France 25 lbs was my absolute maximum weight gain. In the USA they told me around 35 lbs but we are not really concerned. Two totally different cultures. 30 weeks pregnant 🤰and time is flying by. We adopted our dog ‘Jimmy’ two months ago and here he is giving the bump some love. We adopted Jimmy from @streetsavvydogrescue - they do a wonderful job helping street dogs find forever homes. He’s been a wonderful addition to our family. Don’t get me wrong, he’s been trouble at times. As with any young dog; he’s energetic, boisterous, chews everything’s, mouths A LOT, but we knew from the moment we met him, he had huge potential to be a wonderful pet and a companion/ therapy dog. Happy New Year 🎆🎈🎊 January 2020 .............. Let’s talk New Years Resolutions. Have you made any? Have you broken any? Stop smoking? Start exercising? Eat healthily? More work/life balance? These all sound good on the surface, but typically a resolution is based on what you think you should be doing, rather than what you really want to be doing. Too often, resolutions are decided upon by looking at other peoples expectations or by reading a magazine that tells you how to ‘get fit by summer’. Forget about what you or other people ‘think’ you ought to be doing and look at what you really want. What do you actually want in 2020? If you put your mind to it, 2020 can be a great year but be clear on your goals and decide what you really want out of life. Christmas dinner for days ....... I’ll admit there is a lot of focus around food around the holidays. We overindulge and overeat but that only lasts a short time. I don’t feel guilty, it’s only around Christmas time. The important thing is, it’s a temporary state. Our Christmas dinner was delicious: Turkey, stuffing, mash potatoes, roast potatoes, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, honey roasted parsnips, pigs in blankets, apple sauce, cranberry sauce and gravy. All the classics. 😋 But as we approach the New Year it’s time to refocus. I don’t diet, count calories or view food as sins. Instead, I eat food that I Iike and likes me back. Knowing what foods serve your body well and what doesn’t is far healthier than following any fad diet currently on trend. Here I am 19 weeks pregnant! 🤰 I’m very grateful to have had a fantastic pregnancy so far. I had ‘Acute Fatty Liver Syndrome’ with my previous pregnancy. It only happens in your third trimester so fingers crossed it doesn’t happen again. I’m taking care of myself, I fill my plate 🥗with micronutrients (anything colorful) 🥕and try to avoid the macronutrients (the whites and browns) 🍞 I keep myself well hydrated throughout the day and try my best to get 7.5 - 8 hours sleep per night - my 5 year and and foetus regularly sabotage this though. Halloween is over and the decorations are coming down. We definitely enjoyed the spirit of Halloween and the joy and fun our neighbors shared with us. We definitely felt the community spirit in our neighborhood. Community is so important. Do you know your neighbours? Do you say hello in the driveway or over the fence? Do you invite them over for a coffee or have a chit chat on the weekend? Heal, grow, help others. Contrary to what is portrayed on social media - EVERYONE has issues! Many only portray the highlight reel on social media giving the idea the world is rosy. I finding it intriguing when people tell me they aren’t on social media platforms. I find social media a great way of interacting and communicating with people. You can always scroll on by if you don’t like what you see. There is a wealth of information on social media platforms so you can either use it to your advantage or let social media use you. Such beautiful vibrant autumnal colours around! Yes the weather has changed and summer has well and truly left us but the new season can teach us all something. Autumn shows us how beautiful it is to let things go. Even laying on the ground these leaves are a piece of art. (Art created by myself and my child, but art nonetheless). Just as the trees let go of their leaves we must let go of our issues, fears and hatred. Let go of the negative emotions that weigh us down and prevent future happiness. Holding on to pain doesn’t fix anything. Replaying the past over and over again doesn’t change it, and wishing things were different doesn’t make it so. In some cases, especially when it comes to the past, all you can do is accept whatever it is you’re holding on to and then let it go. The next time you’re tempted to be frustrated, see if you can’t turn it into fascination. Instead of a frown, it puts a smile on your face. Now sometimes you look a little weird, but so be it. He says, “How can he smile?” I don’t know. He must be somebody different. So find things fascinating instead of frustrating. Just try it. I’ve learned how to do it. Now make this note. It doesn’t work every time. Nothing works every time, but every time you can get it to work, guess what? It will benefit your day. You’ll get more from it. It’s no secret that I love the sunshine! As it turns out, the sun is vital to keeping a smile on your face. Vitamin D is often referred to as the sunshine vitamin because it is activated in your skin by sunlight. If you live in a place that sees less sunlight than global averages, the lack of light could literally kill your mood. If you are lucky enough to get sunshine get out in it. Why do people still compare themselves to others. We know not to do this. We have been told 1000 times over and yet we still do it. Everyone has a different journey, a different path to take. The only person you should be comparing yourself to, is who you were yesterday and have you been a better person today. We are a very fortunate family and have found our home in the USA. We love to experience different cultures and we have definitely been adventurous over the last decade.
