How long has the idea of ZATO been brewing inside your head? Is there any specific reason you decided to make it a VN instead of song series? Thanks!

I wanted to do a short story that takes place in a secluded northern town for a couple of years, but everything about it was extremely vague. The first draft was largely inspired by Sorokin's short story Падеж (not sure what the official translation for it is) and was very intentionally edgy.

I imagined it as an RPGmaker game first, since there would be little to no dialogue involved. Considered a comic, too, but wasn't sure if that would work.

Either way, I put that concept off indefinitely, until I read a shady scientific article about sunspots this April. It was nothing crazy, but something about it really endeared me so I started writing my thoughts down. And somewhere along the way I went, hey, doesn't this kinda sound like a VN monologue?

And then a story formed in my mind almost immediately! It was like all the little ideas that I've found interesting but couldn't find a use for finally clicked together.

It would never work in a song series format, I don't think the kinds of stories I want to tell really do if I'm being honest lol. I'm pretty sure the reason why I'm able to be as productive as I am with the VN is because it's a change of pace from making music and animations, both of which have become very draining.

I'll be back at it after I'm done with it, though
