Her smile was loving and soft as she glanced up to him, nodding along. She let their left hands interlock, blue eyes falling over the band that wrapped itself around his index finger. The same one that had sat there for nearly the same ten years. âWhen I saw you again, that day in CCPD â I felt like I was looking at someone I knew my entire life. Like everything fell into itâs place. Thatâs why, isnât it? Because â through all of those years, apart of me did know you.â Her eyes flutter closed at his touch, a small chuckle passing through her lips at the mention of the cake once more. âPlease, you loved me then, and you love me now for it. I had to do something to get your attention, didnât I? And always, I will always want macarons, I mean, itâs been ten years, how is that even a question anymore?â
Her lips leave his and at the mention of his children, she feels guilt overcome her. âWe need to stop putting so much pressure on ourselves, Allen. Itâll happen, and â by the way, no more messing with the speed force to find out if Iâm pregnant, Barry. That means even sensing through it. If it happens, then we find out when we see that little plus sign on a test like a regular couple, huh? You know how temperamental it can be.â Blue eyes fluttered down as she watched him skim over her stomach, letting out a long sigh, her head falling against his chest as she nodded. Sheâd always dreamed of it, a family of their own. Wally would be enough if it ever came down to it, but to be able to raise them, to guide them through all of it, she knew that was what sheâd always imagined. Swallowing at the names, she let a hopeful smile cross her lips once more, though this one was a little more forced. Itâd been ten years, they deserved it. They deserved their happy ending. âIf it doesnât happen⌠Iâll be okay, Barry. Like you said, we have Wally. Thatâs enough, isnât it? At least we have that. Heâs my nephew, heâs an amazing kid.â
Once his lips capture hers, his teasing words nearly send her over the edge. Hands untangle from his pushing him further back onto the desk. Her lips finally leave his, brows raising at his words as she shakes her head. âOh Mr. Allen, you shouldnât have said that,â she murmurs quietly, walking over to her office door, looking out into the main corridor. At this time, mostly everyone was leaving to go home. It was always her that took the later meetings, stood until the early mornings. Workaholic wasnât even close to what described Iris. Closing the door, she locked it before drawing the blinds that connected her to the rest of the room, blocking them out completely before walking back over to him a small smirk painted on her lips. âYou know, I DONâT have anymore meetings for the night, and nearly⌠everyone is gone. So â maybe,â Iris dragged some of the papers off her desk, swiping them onto the ground as she neared him. ââ we should have a little fun.â
Barry falls into silence, allowing himself to take in her presence beyond that of just words. Words were how he knew the most intimate parts of his wife; of his Iris. Her writing had always been the gateway to her true self, her soul if you believe in that sort of thing. Heâd always be able to tell her mood by her writing, by how heavily and quickly she typed away. Many a nights filled with frustration could be revealed the moment he walked in the door; if a story wasnât going her way heâd know it instantly. Heâd walk in with a mug full of coffee for her, and one of tea for him. Some days, to relax and catch up on their days, all he needed to do was lay on the couch next to her while she worked away; warm drinks often leant their way to tender hearts. âIris, my first love,â he replies with an air of his thoughts floating away, as if their entire lives together were a dream; one fully realized he has to admit. âYou still ate my cake,â Barry pouts, looking her in the eyes now. âI know Iâve cashed this in repeatedly, but I think you owe me one tonight, babe.â The blond grins, beaming as he settles in against her, right hand moving in small circles along the small of her back as he hums contentedly. âIâll head out soon then, be home in time for Jeopardy.â
The blond groans, rolling his eyes even. âNo need to put your foot down, I get it. I just want to know, you know?â He acquiesces however, happy wife meant a greater chance at, and a smoother pregnancy. Irisâs mood had to be put above all else, well minus her safety. Heâd always prioritize that over absolutely everything. Barry perks up, having been lost in his thoughts a tad. âIt or us?â he asks. âWe havenât been the most patient with this entire thing either, have we?â Barry just wanted to be a father. Heâd gotten his chance with Wally, helping him with homework, girls, sports teams, all of that. But he wasnât there for the first words, the first steps or many of the others. He taught him how to ride a bike, but not how to tie his shoes. How to run, but not how to walk. He wanted that, he wanted to be there for all those firsts. âWallyâs pretty much our own, speaking of, heâs coming by later to run an English paper by you, I was thinking we could do tacos tonight?â
The blond quickly regrets how far this has gotten. Regardless of what time of day it is, this isnât something he wanted to do here and now. He swallows thickly when Iris goes to leave, and heâs forced to stand there, face growing redder and redder by the second. The flush extends to his ears, and suddenly he has to loosen his bow tie; it was far too hot in this office already. Damn his fair complexion for giving him away. âWe are not doing this here,â he warns, a fine line being held between stern and cautious. âI donât have a condom, and I doubt you do either. Iâm not conceiving our first child in her motherâs office at work. Let alone the implications of what might happen if we get caught, you know I could just take us home before you even open your mouth.â He narrows his eyes at her, and before she can react he has all the papers back onto her desk. âIris, no. Weâre not doing this here.â
