The truth about Easter and Christianity

I’ve been seeing a meme going around about how Easter is actually about sex and is based off the goddess Ishtar. While many who call themselves Christians don’t understand the true meaning of this holiday they call Easter, that meme about Ishtar doesn’t have it totally right either.

Ishtar, or Ianna, was the ancient Sumerian goddess of love, beauty, sex, desire, fertility, war, combat, and justice. Symbols associated with her are the eight pointed star and the lion, not rabbits and eggs, and she has nothing to do with Easter.

Easter likely gets its name from Eostre or Ostara, the Germanic pagan goddess of Spring. Eostre is connected with renewal and fertility and the symbols of eggs, rabbits, and the full moon, and is traditionally celebrated on the equinox. Equinox in Latin translates to “equal light”, recognizing the return of the sun, making all things spring possible.

 Jesus is actually symbolic of the sun, and is associated with balancing  compassion and strength, the forces of giving and receiving, represented by tifereth on the kabalistic tree of life.  the Sun is a Star which rises in the East.

East + Star = Easter
