While so wildly different, Maree still made an effort to understand her brother. His views, his personality, his choices. She supposed that she could to a degree understand why he was, and always had been incredibly protective. His father had died going to the surface just to check on something and here she was going to actually live out of the water. And while their kind knew lots about the surface, few of them had actually gone to experience it. So nothing was certain and little was verified. âRight..â she amended, pursing her lips a little as she couldnât exactly agree with it but she could at the very least respect it. He saw danger everywhere, whereas she saw opportunities and new adventures. At least he didnât outright tell her he disagreed with their reigning monarch. To do so would be far too reckless for him anyway. Like it had before when theyâd talked, or rather she had yelled and he had talked about him coming with her, her heart twisted at the honest admission. Despite having voiced her opinion and truly pleaded with him to stay behind, and heard how he saw it and how he insisted he would be unhappy at home while she was here, Maree still felt terrible about this. Her eyes becoming blank with unshed tears as she tried to swallow the huge lump in her throat. What if he ended up resenting her? Not in a month or four, but two or eight years.. when they were still here and heâd put so much of his life on hold for her, not to mention lived in a place he truly wouldnât be if it wasnât for her. âI love you for it.. but youâre going to end up hating my guts for keeping you here..â she murmured, despair lacing in her tone. She knew he was hoping she would change her mind after a bit of time here. Agree to come back home where she was safe.. but in her mind, limited. She wanted her life to be more, bigger, exhilarating, unlike their parents lives..Â
Sebastian chuckled at her words, only because the idea of him ever being able to hate her was very funny to him, when he looked at her and saw that she was almost crying, he immediately regretted his laugh, and pulled her closer to him into a hug, Sebastian didnât hug people very often, not even his sister or mother so this was a very special occasion, he wanted to make sure she was okay, and he hated that she was almost crying because of him, he already tried to explain to her once, but it seemed like she was stuck with that idea, which was a quality that Sebastian had. Stop walking, he looked at her. âWhen you were born, I was pretty sure you were going to hate me at some point.â He had never told that before, since it was a feeling he once had but realized he was wrong, so there was no need to bring it up, until now. âYou were always smiling and running around, bringing me pretty rocks you found, and speaking none stop.â He smiled it, he was pretty sure at that time if he was a person that spoke at a lot, he still wouldnât manage to get more than a few words between her endless talks. âI thought if I didnât change, you would start to think that I hated you, and eventually you would hate me for being so close off.â Sebastian didnât know how to show her how much she meant to him, except that until this day, he still had all those little gifts she brought for him. âOne day you hurt your knees. It wasnât anything serious, but the first thing you did was call my name.â His voice, as always, was quiet, a low whisper, if someone was walking by, no one would be able to hear. âThat was when I realized I didnât need to change, being around was enough for you to realized how much I loved you. That it didnât matter what happened, big or small, you could always call my name and I would run to you.â He told her, he doubted she would remember since she was only 5 when that happened. âBeing here is my way of saying how much I love you, and that love can never turn into hate, okay.â He reassured her.Â
