After years of traveling in my FJ60 I came to a spot where I needed some more comfort for living on the road so much. I wanted something I could stand up in, had a desk, with a nice size bed, stove, and a little fridge ✨ a rig that felt a bit like a home.

After researching a bunch of options from Sprinter vans to Unimogs I decided on a 1995 F250 with the 7.3L diesel + I found an amazing deal on a 1988 Grandby pop up camper that was in wonderful condition. This setup gets me 17mpg @ 70mph with plenty of power.

The F250 is a full size truck but its not as bulky as a Sprinter van so I can still get down a lot of trails I enjoy. It’s also a common vehicle around here, much simpler to fix than a Unimog.

So my advice if you’re looking for a new rig is to be patient and go drive a bunch of options! The pop up campers are crazy expensive brand new so wait for a used one!
