“(Her)Stories” narrates through poetry and the book form the implicit ways black bodies are marginalized and face death. While utilizing spirituality to breathe life into the social deaths, the living dead and slow dying that takes place.

Performance piece in-conjunction “Transatlantic Lunch” Event

Shown:

Secondhand denim “fattened” up (inspired by Shinique Smith’s, Soul Elsewhere), filled with disposed textiles found on streets in West and East Oakland.

Fabric, naturally dyed at “Transatlantic Lunch“ held with CCA Students of Color coalition , “a gathering of history and ancestry, a meal together, holding space, honoring and discussing the treatment of people of color in the US right now”.

Project explores healing in the form of cleaning up streets, ancestral markings, and conceptual investigation on the subject of diet, and the way the consumption in various forms continues to enslave Black communities.

Activation on blank black wall in transition after CCA mural was defaced. This project explores crossing boundaries of public and private within the CCA campus. Activating a blank mural wall in transition (after being vandalized), serving as open conversation space, for writing and talking about emotions, experiences and frustrations around the killing of black bodies in the US, and CCA’s lack of response to frustrations within the institution.

PLACE/DISPLACED : Potrero and California College of the Arts (CCA)

CCA students activate the changing protreo neighborhood in an effort to explore the role CCA has in the Potrero neighborhood. The project encompassed mimicking the act of flyer-ing, with symbolic words from conversation with long standing Potrero Community members. Text was spread out across the Potrero neighbor to mark common emotions and what is expressed as needed in the neighborhood in the present moment, marked by increasing evictions and an affordability crisis.
