It’s been the hardest thing in the world to convince Seth of, and Kate has had it up to fucking here with this bullshit.
“Just. Let me drive the freaking car!”
Okay, so, maybe she sounded a bit childish, but this was Seth’s doing. He made her stoop this low, he brought out the teenager in her. Which, when she thought about it, was kind of creepy after what happened at that cantina a few cities back—not that she ever did think about that, or anything.
"No. No way, Kate. This car is easily worth over a million—that’s cold, hard, American cash. You are not touching this baby’s wheel,” Seth spits a bit of blood onto the ground, shifts his weight so he isn’t putting pressure on his (probably broken, fractured at the least) right leg. His right arm clutches his left shoulder and he winces in pain.
Kate taps her toes on the dusty place beneath her foot, eyes narrowed in on one stubborn a-hole. Her arms cross over her chest for added ‘are you serious right now?’ effect.
"Seth. I—this is—you couldn’t ride a bike right now, let alone drive a car!”
The look on Seth’s face is priceless. It’s like he got lost on his way to ‘highly offended’ and ended up somewhere near ‘well, she’s got a point’.
“Well, you can’t drive stick!”
“You literally just made that up. I’m not an idiot—this car’s an automatic. And besides, I can drive stick, thank you very much,” Kate snarls, and then Seth looks like he’s the one thinking about that cantina.
A moment of silence permeates the thick fog of angry (and maybe something else) tension, and then Seth sighs. He’s been grasping at straws, trying to keep the situation under his control. He know’s better though, couldn’t control his own brother, should know better than to try and control a teenaged girl.
He’s not even going to acknowledge the fact that he’s literally so beat up he can barely stand, let alone keep awake long enough to be the get-away man. Fucking culebras.
"Alright. Alright, you can drive.”
“Finally!” Kate snarks, and Seth almost changes his mind.
With a pained grunt the keys become airborne, jingle lightly as they land in Kate’s outstretched palms. She flashes a pearly grin, winks boldly, and climbs into the driver’s seat.
Seth’s eyes shoot skyward as something akin to a prayer for strength leaves his lips, and he shuffles himself painfully into the passenger side.
