Aside from the deepened knowledge of human trafficking, one of the things I will be taking away from this summer is the experience I had with the team. The directors of this organization blow my mind. I don't know how they do what they do, and I'm constantly inspired and impressed by their dedication and passion to this cause. They really are super-human heroes, and I felt like this nerdy interpretation expressed how I saw them throughout the summer pretty darn well.
Thanks to all of the Directors - Justin, Kari, Adam and Anna - for making my fellowship here a memorable one.
As our summer here is coming to a close, we all were asked to create something that expresses our journey at Slavery Footprint. I chose to create a flyer of sorts to describe two of the most valuable things I've learned these past few months. The first part, "Everyone has a story," explains my new understanding that there's no way you can know what someone's been through by looking at them. Everyone has had past experiences that you know nothing about, and that could have a huge impact on the person they are today. I learned to recognize that everyone has their own unique, and valuable, story. Secondly, I strongly believe that everyone has a "right to tell that story". We take for granted the power that we have to make our own choices and follow our dreams. I believe everyone has a right to have this power for themselves. They should be able to tell their story, and choose their next chapter. Thank you to everyone at SFP! You all have taught me so much about hope and teamwork. :)
*This isn't the final product! I saved it as a PDF and can't seem to figure out how to upload a PDF! So, here's the JPEG draft.

Motivational Speech
Hello, Shela here. This morning, I decided that the Grassroots Marketing team needed a pick-me-up. It can get pretty tedious and disheartening, to reach out to bucketloads of people whom we think (and moreso hope) would care about ending slavery, and only end up receiving a handful of half-interested responses. After our 11 o'clock check in with Daniel and Kari, something just came to me. I must give credit where it is due, to my partners Michelle F. and Madison B. Their words inspired me to give this motivational speech (definitely not verbatim).
Please feel free to play this VIDEO in the background, for added emotional effect. (If you read the following speech out loud and slowly, it'll probably work better. But if you're worried that someone might walk in on you, no worries. You just do you.)
Hey guys, you know what? I know the road is tough. It's discouraging and horrible when people don't respond, but you know what? What we are doing here is absolutely crucial to the face of the way society will view modern day slavery! It's like what Madison just said. We are establishing brand recognition, even with contacts who don't respond well. You guys, we are cultivating the very culture of how people will look at slavery for the rest of our lifetime. And culture locks in the very ideologies of society! And you can't just break ideology! We, right here, are pretty much the forefathers of the next generation of anti-slavery sentiments in America. So let's do this ladies.
Let's make Abraham proud, America.
If you always put limit on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them.

Logan W.
Production Assistant...What What!
Hey there! I'm Logan!
Moved to the Bay Area a year ago from Tiffin, Ohio.
I heard about Slavery Footprint from the Production Coordinator, who attends the same church as me.
There's so much I have learned in just a few months of being an intern. Things like preparing film locations, archival footage research, building green screens, and everything in between. Everyday I am soaking up something new. The hard work we put into each shoot is definitely paying off on screen. My hope is that people around the country and around the world will take action and join us in fighting human trafficking. Slavery is not cool!
Danica H.
Production Assistant
Hi! My name is Danica and I am going into my second year at University of California Irvine, as a Sociology major. Go Anteaters! Zot zot zot!
Raised in Union City, CA. Bay Areaaaaa!
My youth pastor took us as a youth group to see Call & Response when I was in 7th grade, and I have been very passionate about the cause ever since.
I am so blessed to have this opportunity as an intern. During my time here, I have been constantly reminded that despite the small hiccups that may occur during the day, or the larger ones that occur during the shoots, what matters most is that we are working for a greater cause--to end human trafficking.

Put anger aside--it is not a solution. Patience and love is a solution. With compassion and action, together we can end slavery.
