Degrads Podcast w/ Ryan Cooley

Some interesting highlights from the latest episode of Degrads:

JT's death was not requested by Ryan. It was just a coincidence that he wanted to move on at the same time the storyline was proposed to him. He was given the choice and had he said no, they wouldn't have done it.

He didn't think the invitation for Drake's music video "I'm Upset" was a scam. His best friend just had twins and he wanted to be there for that.

the degrads pod is cool but i wonder what happened to andy? he was a great third voice/stand-in for fans and could correct shane and mike whenever they got something wrong about the show or characters. shane and mike both make it a point to say they haven’t seen the show in a long time and are pretty unfamiliar with it as a whole so a live fact checker would be useful especially once they get into the later seasons.

like many, i’m eager for them to go beyond season 1. i don’t have any comments on their dynamic since i feel like my feelings change every episode but so far i’m enjoying it.

all this new degrassi stuff had me wanting to come back on here to discuss

re: the doc - I saw on reddit that there weren't a ton of actors in the doc and there was some weird stuff with linda dismissing concerns over the treatment of some of the actors especially the black ones. some probably declined with Andrea confirming that she contacted but declined. (she's spoken about Degrassi in the past on YouTube channel so I'm not too surprised).

I thought this paragraph from an article posted on the reddit was interesting:

this confirmed what I already knew and that was Netflix never gave a straight answer on whether or not the show was officially canceled. since then, having worked more in the industry and with Netflix, I'm not surprised by them dragging the creators along. I always thought it was weird that no one said anything about the show getting cancelled, not the actors or the creators. it just....quietly died in the night to no fanfare. it always pissed me off.

the podcast shane and mike have going is pretty okay so far. I think they do a good job balancing discussing the episode and some behind the scenes stuff. I'm not a big fan of shane apparently being maga or mage-adjacent though.

apparently drake's production company is producing a Degrassi remake of sorts? I won't get my hopes up since the hbo one fell through. I really hate how the next class ended so it'll be sad to see a new series start without any of the NC storylines concluding but I would love to see a new series.
