there are differences about her. he does not say them, but he observes them all the same. different. everything is different now.

━━━━   narrow   shoulders   seem   to   only   slump   in   response   to   what   he   said.   arms   moved   to   cross   just   over   top   the   lower,   more   smaller   ribs   contained   in   her   body.   it   was   almost   as   if   he   were   brooding,   had   he   always   been   so   emotional?   she   wonders   if   he   thought   she   wouldn't   return   this   time   or   even   the   last   time.   it   must've   been   stressful   -   but   he   hardly   shows   much   in   his   expression   .   .   his   eyes   were   a   different   story.   they   would   always   reveal   the   truth.   she   inhales,   chest   rising   as   her   head   tilts   slowly.   "i   suppose   it   will   come   when   keros   tires   of   me."   but   that   wouldn't   be   for   a   good,   long   while   yet.   he   still   needed   her   to   fight   his   battles,   if   nothing   else.   cowardly   god.

she   did   have   questions   but   she   wouldn't   pry   into   things   he   obviously   didn't   wish   to   speak   about.   she   learned   from   last   time,   not   to   rely   on   others   and   especially   not   deng.   all   he   did   was   lie   anyhow.   "no,"   she   offers   a   short   and   rather   quick   response.   clearing   her   throat   afterward;   "why   would   i?"   their   relationship   had   always   been   rather   prickly,   hadn't   it?   he   was   .   .   putting   it   politely,   rather   strange.

"i   enjoy   your   company   most   and   goro   is   pleasant.   deng   is   not   someone   i   wish   to   spend   much   time   with   nor   get   to   know.   you   understand   this,   right?"

the cobra stares, sitting plainly across from her, cross-legged and firm. his hands rest over his splayed knees, eyeing her carefully. it’s a test — of non-verbal communication and intent. stare into the eyes of another in silence for five minutes — and what happens? look into my eyes. startling emeralds peer into the soul, attempting to strip it back. never falters, never retracts his gaze. look at me.

━━━━   silence   is   the   only   response,   fingers   busying   themselves   by   pouring   herself   a   warm   and   fresh   cup   of   tea.   porcelain   clinks   together   but   it   hardly   bothers   the   fox.   she   can   feel   him   staring   but   she   doesn't   look   up   .   .   not   until   she   has   placed   exactly   two   cubes   of   sugar   into   her   tea.   she   had   a   sweet   tooth,   something   minor   but   something   new   no   matter.   the   pot   is   sat   down   off   to   the   side,   returned   to   the   warmer   so   that   delicate   fingers   may   encircle   her   cup.   a   small,   golden   spoon   is   used   to   stir   her   drink   .   .   before   it   would   inevitably   be   raised   for   a   taste.   perhaps   she   should've   added   a   third   cube   of   sugar   .   .

finally,   golden   eyes   lift   to   find   his   face   with   ease.   she   doesn't   say   a   word   but   her   head   does   tilt.   she's   staring.   his   wish   had   been   granted,   after   all,   how   could   she   resist?   forefinger   taps   against   the   rim   of   her   cup   as   it's   placed   down,   only   to   then   move   her   arms   so   that   they   may   cross   against   the   edge   of   the   table   sat   between   the   two   of   them.   "your   eyes   are   quite   pretty,   ji-hun."

he is kissing face, adoring every feature that made her, her ⸻ affection rooted in absolute adoration and the undeniable obsession. hands hold face with care, tenderness that no other would ever know, those same hands used to kill mercilessly, the soul that drives such violence under her command. if she so wishes for it ⸻ he would kill anyone for her, but why think of murder, when he can adore the one who has his heart and soul for a little while longer ...

━━━━   a   smile   melts   o'er   her   lips   no   different   than   butter   melting   upon   warm   toast.   her   chest   flutters   with   naught   but   the   most   tender   love   for   him.   each   kiss   is   met   with   a   breathless   laugh   from   the   fox,   all   five   tails   swaying   from   left   to   right   beyond   the   shape   of   hips.   his   hands   hold   her   face   with   the   utmost   care,   whilst   her   own   rest   as   his   wrists;   holding   onto   him.   they   had   always   been   so   touchy   with   one   another,   her   beloved.   had   she   still   been   in   possession   of   her   own   soul,   it   would've   been   given   to   him   without   so   much   as   a   second   thought.

mirage   was   most   deserving   of   it,   heart   and   soul.   alas,   she   didn't   own   not   a   one   but   there   is   a   warmth   in   her   chest   no   matter   in   which   burns   only   for   him.   an   internal   flame,   lit   only   by   the   match   of   his   touch.   thumbs   brush   along   the   veins   in   his   wrist,   favoring   the   pulse   held   within   them.   tall   ears   twitch   atop   her   head   before   the   fox   would   inevitably   turn   her   head,   greeting   his   affections   with   a   chaste   kiss   to   the   tip   of   his   nose.   he   was   spoiling   her.

he seems unsure of what to do with her confession. he accepts it for what it is. produces a cigarette from his inner breast pocket, a silver case revealing hand-rolled stogies. he lights it without effort, the tip of his finger dulling out with a puff of smoke. a neat parlor trick, one he picked up from that man.

━━━━ large   tails   sway   in   all   directions   just   behind   her,   ears   stood   tall   upon   her   skull.   indeed,   she   missed   him,   but   she's   sure   he   doesn't   need   her   to   repeat   it.   he does   it   himself   instead.   ever   watchful   eyes   do   not   dare   miss   his   little   trick,   something   new   indeed,   as   was   the   set   of   shining   gold   eyes   she   now   possessed.   the   soft   lavender   from   before   was   now   gone.   absorbed   and   swallowed   whole,   replacing   only   a   replica   of   keros.   ji-hun   doesn't   know   that   -   he   doesn't   need   to   know   that.

"goro   said   you   were   waiting."   though   she   couldn't   imagine   why,   ji-hun   had   always   kept   any   thoughts   and   feelings   close   to   his   chest.   he   never   showed   them,   unlike   her.   she   blinks   slowly,   re-directing   her   gaze   from   his   cigarette   toward   his   eyes   instead.   ".   .   i   will   always   come   back,   i   hope   my   confirmation   eases   any   uncertainty   in   the   future."

TWO SIDES OF THE SAME COIN. THAT IS WHAT THEY ARE. they see it not now, but they will soon. the little rabbit has already come barking at me like a dog. i'll show him ... what a mutt he really is.

there are some secrets that ji-hun must keep to himself.

━━━━   her   chin   lifts   before   the   fox   shakes   her   head   slowly   from   side   to   side.   she   would   not   be   returning   for   the   time   being,   she   will   remain   here   .   .   until   keros   beckons   her   back.   she   was   no   different   than   a   leashed   pet.   "i   am   back   for   now."   eyes   flick   from   his   face   toward   his   shoulders   instead,   a   manner   of   observing,   a   habit   she'd   always   possessed.   she   had   always   seen   goro,   it   was   ji-hun's   turn   .   .   ren   hadn't   been   seen   for   a   good   while   but   that   was   fine.   deng   even   longer,   he   was   hardly   her   favorite,   after   all.

"i   missed   you."   her   words   bleed   truth,   as   they   always   did.   as   they   always   would.   her   feelings   remain   at   bay,   nothing   beyond   what   she'd   already   said   .   .   there   was   no   need.   it   was   hardly   a   secret,   that   she   thought   of   him   so   often.   "has   goro   kept   you   busy?"   a   breath.   "with   work,   i   mean."

━━━━ she   need   not   treat   them   the   same,   they   were   very   different   after   all.   his   voice   encourages   her   smile   to   grow,   if   only   slightly.   her   spine   straightens   and   she   steps   forward,   sliding   her   hand   from   her   back   as   she   directs   her   body   toward   him;   standing   face   to   face.   hands   gather   at   her   abdomen,   held   there   loosely   by   laced   fingers.   "my   homeland.   savarra."   a   simple   response   -   it   need   not   get   any   deeper   than   that.   she   left   and   came   back,   all   in   one   piece.   that   was   all   that   mattered.   her   eyes   close   momentarily,   inhaling   unnecessary   breath   before   speaking   again;   "i   apologize,   it   was   urgent   .   .   that   is   why   i   did   not   leave   a   note."
