As the days passed, I felt my strength waning. Although I was making plenty of friends I was also losing what made me so valuable to Hyrule; should there be an uprising or should another dark force ascend, I would be useless. So I left to retrain myself, and now I am back. Hopefully this time I will keep a balance of friendship and strength, just as Link has.

I think you are quiet correctWhen Ganondorf took power, Impa fled with Princess Zelda and they went into hiding. Princess Zelda disguised herself as Sheik to protect herself from Ganondorf.
