Quartz Composer Experiments

I've been back in the studio for the past few weeks finishing my album and getting ready for my live shows. As some of you know I'm a visual artist, I mostly work with acrylic and spray paint. I also do some digital pieces and decided to push that a bit further and get into programing some animated visuals for my live shows. Quartz Composer is a visual based programing language that really speaks to me because it's similar to patching my analog modular synth. I'll be posting some of my QC experiments to give everyone a sneak peek at some of the animated elements that will be projected at my up coming live shows. These experiments are small pieces of the puzzle.

Voltagectrlr Live!

The first quarter of 2014 has been an amazing journey so far. I have been performing live analog modular synth compositions up and down the west coast for the past few months and I'm extremely motivated from all the positive feedback I've been getting after the shows. I plan on doing more gigs around the US and out of the country soon. I'm very humbled and inspired by all the artist, listeners and promoters I've been meeting in the past 4 months. I can't wait to see what other experiences manifest as I go on this journey exploring, experimenting and sharing my modular synth compositions with as many ears as I can get to listen on this planet.

Twisted Love

'Twisted Love' Acrylic and spray paint on 24 X 24 in. wood panel.

This is a visual story reflecting on a moment in time where I felt my heart opening, yet I wasn't experiencing the warm and fuzzy feeling I expected. I was hit with a rush of emotions while working on this painting during my transition back to Los Angeles. The serpent like patch chords represent the movement of sound, vibration and energy. The green and blue chord that makes up one half the twisted heart shape is full of symbolism. Green is the color associated with the heart chakra, the blue hues that are spilling out represent the energy of purging from all that is not needed in your life once your heart is truly open. You'll also notice it's coming out of a vortex, this symbolizes this cycle is coming to an end.

The green patch chord is rising from the bottom makes up the other half of the twisted heart and is going into a new uncharted realm.

I would also like to point out the black vortex that the green patch chord slithers across looks like a black breast, this symbolizes me being nurtured by HER formlessness. The color pink is also associated with the heart chakra. The flowing pink energy represents the divine nectar and shakti of the goddess in her manifested form.

The black portal at the top with the explosion of movement and color symbolizes the unknown beauty of new beginnings.

The 'Seduction Of Sound' series.is inspired by my love of sound and modular synthesis.This collection of paintings tell an abstract story of my relationship and reverence of sound and vibration, Every painting is a snap shot of a parallel universe that I tap into when I sit in front of my modular synth and improvise a composition. After I record my synth composition, I listen to it in the studio and start painting what i see in my minds eye.

These are the first two paintings in the series.

Arturia MicroBrute Experiments

I just had a birthday a few weeks ago (Nov 7th.) And yes I got an Arturia MicroBrute analog synthesizer. This little synth sounds a lot bigger than it looks. I've been really enjoying patching it up with my eurorack modular synth. Here's a few videos of my first few recording sessions with the MicroBrute

This is a new composition from an upcoming project that I'm going to release before the year is over. It will feature a lot of my ambient compositions. This project will be a collection of my more emotional work as a way to purge and clear the energy before moving into the new year. The pieces on this project will feature my analog modular synth drones and field recordings. I look forward to sharing this project with all the people that have been supporting my art. This collection of songs will be released on limited edition cassettes, cd's and possibly vinyl if enough people are interested. Thanks again for your ears and feedback.

The Rings of Shani

This composition is based on the Hindu deity/ energy channel of Shani also known as Saturn.

Shani is one of the Navagraha which are the nine primary celestial beings in Hindu astrology.He is known as the greatest teacher who represents patience, effort and endurance. Shani is also known as the greatest trouble giver as well as the greatest well wisher. He is depicted dark in color, clothed in black; holding a sword, arrows and two daggers and variously mounted on a black crow. This composition was created with the following instruments:

Hang Drum

An instrument created in Switzerland around 2000 it sounds similar to a steel drum but it’s played with the hands and produces a warmer sound than it’s distant cousin the steel drum.

Manjeera

An ancient instrument that is in the cymbal family used in devotional music of India.

Gong

An East Asian musical instrument that takes the form of a flat metal disc which is hit with a mallet.

The sound it emits creates pressure waves that vibrate the energy meridians in the body and brings them into balance.

The sound of the gong is know for pulling negative energy out of you like a vacuum.

I highly recommend experiencing a Deep Gong Meditation your body will thank you for it.

Harp

A stringed instrument that has been used as early as 4000 BC in Egypt to heal.

The vibrations emitted by the harp possesses unusual power both to calm and to energize humans and animals.

Other instruments:

Acoustic Guitar, Upright Bass, synths and drum machine were also used.

Kali Loka Spray paint and acrylic on 16in. x 7.5in. wood

Kali personifies the sacrificial movement of time in which every creation becomes an offering into the into the fire of eternity.

The vastness of space and the unmanifest absolute is the true nature of Kali.

To hear the sound of Kali is to hear the silence carrying the cosmic AUM vibration within itself.

'Kali Loka' Sanskrit: (Kali "black/time" Loka "universe/realm) Spray paint and acrylic on 16in. x 7.5in. wood This is an original one of a kind painting by Shiro Fujioka an urban yogi and experimental analog modular synth composer from Los Angeles. The graffiti piece to the left is the Sanskrit symbol for Loka and the 3 eyes to the right represent the Hindu Goddess Kali, she is the Goddess of Time and Change. This painting is great for the home or meditation room of an urban yogi or yogini that would like a more modern and street savvy perspective on Vedic art.

The Sun Gave Birth To Shadows is a sonic exploration of the age old conversation of dark and light energy. It's not a battle, it's not a struggle it's simply two energetic systems that need to be in balance and work in tandem. This is a collection of one take recordings performed on my analog modular synthesizer. the compositions on this album are a reflection of my mood and energy at the time I was recording, sometimes I capture moments of peace, other times chaos and all the subtle shades of energies that exist between. Only 20 copies of this project are being pressed on clear 12 inch vinyl with signed and numbered hand painted covers. I will never make these songs available for download online with the exception of the title track.
