After the announcement, Aurey was quick to run to the table, grabbing the letter addressed to him, tearing the envelope away to reveal the DVD that had been hidden by the embossed paper. "Just like Christmas!" he shouted giddily as he ran to the theater to watch his dream. I wonder what my dream is, there's nothing I even want, I'm so happy!
He popped in the DVD and sat down in the nearest seat, eager for the show to star, as he fiddled with his mask, a grin on his face.
As the short movie, played, showing various patients of Aurey's, set up in a "before and after" way, showing then sickly and dying, next to a picture of them smiling and looking at perfect health. These pictures were shown until one, where it was just a large before picture, showing a young girl, looking quite obviously terminally ill. Aurey's smile faltered, just barely, as the picture vanished, replaced by a black screen until an new picture came up, of the same girl, slightly older, with a healthier tinge to her skin and more light behind her eyes. Aurey's smile, dropped now, to a look of confusion, as his mind tried to piece together who this girl was, and why she was being shown. A black screen appeared again, before one last picture was shown. A picture of a simple stone grave, on freshly turned earth. Flowers were scattered around it, though the inscription was not legible due to the distance.
Aurey's eyes bugged, almost popping out of his skull as he ran out of the room, his mask falling as he ran out of the door, though he didn't notice as he collapsed on the floor just outside the entrance the theater, thoughts traveling though his head at what seemed like 90 miles before they grew further and further apart until the distance between them ushered him into a void state, as he fell completely into it, he felt nothing but a slight pressure on his skull as things long forgotten became dislodged, and threatened to erase all the tight-rope balancing he had accomplished over the years with just a single push.
