Victoria and Albert talk for the first time: TRANSCRIPT OF THE ENGAGEMENT INTERVIEW WITH CROWN PRINCESS VICTORIA & LORD ALBERT SAXE-GOTHA
Last night, fresh off the announcement of their engagement, Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Victoria and Lord Albert Saxe-Gotha sat with Benjamin Norton, from the Simdolvian News Network, in a nationally televised broadcast to speak of their relationship and the excitement for the future for the first time. The meeting took place in Coburg Haus and the couple looked very relaxed and very much in love. See below the transcript of the entire interview:
Benjamin Norton (BN): Your Royal Highness, Lord Albert—first of all, congratulations! This is such a joyous moment for the two of you and for the nation. Ma’am, thank you for receiving us in your home. We are all thrilled to share this moment with you both and to finally get to know you, Lord Albert, a little more. How does it feel to finally be able to share your engagement with the world?
Crown Princess Victoria (V): (smiling warmly, glancing at Albert) Oh, it feels absolutely wonderful. We’ve had this little secret between us for a while now, and finally being able to share it—it just makes everything feel even more real. We’re both incredibly happy.
Lord Albert (A): (chuckles, nodding) Yes, very happy. It’s been a surreal few days, but mostly, we just feel incredibly lucky. Lucky to have found each other, lucky to have had all this time together, and lucky that now we get to move forward—together—with everyone’s support.
A Lifetime of Friendship and Love
BN: Your relationship is one that many have speculated about for months, but you’ve always been very private. Now that you’ve made this announcement, can you tell us a little bit about your journey as a couple?
V: (laughs softly) Well, it’s been quite the journey! We’ve actually known each other our whole lives. Our mothers have been best friends since their university days, so Albert and I, and our siblings, we grew up together—we have childhood memories, we were on the same family vacations, and we were always just part of each other’s worlds. But as we got older, that friendship became something deeper, and well…here we are! (smiles at Albert, squeezing his hand)
Albert has been a fundamental part of my life for nine years now, but really, he’s always been there. He is my best friend, my rock, and now my fiancé—though that still feels a little surreal to say!
A: (nodding, looking at Victoria with admiration) From the moment we met—probably when we were still in diapers—Victoria has been the most important person in my life. (laughs) But in all seriousness, our bond has always been strong. We’ve supported each other through everything—our studies, our careers, all the changes life has brought—and now we’re here, taking this next step, which just feels so natural and so right.
Different in Some Ways, But Perfectly Aligned in Others
BN: It sounds like such a strong and beautiful foundation. Would you say you’re very similar, or do you balance each other out?
V: (laughs) Oh, we’re actually quite different in some ways! I’m probably more structured and methodical, whereas Albert is a bit more relaxed and spontaneous. But I think that’s what makes us work—we complement each other.
A: (nods in agreement) Yes, we definitely have our differences, but at the core, we share the same values—family, duty, love, and loyalty. That’s what truly matters. And we always push each other to be better, to grow, and to support one another no matter what.
V: Exactly. At the end of the day, we are a team.
The Responsibility of Being Prince Consort
BN: Lord Albert, your life is about to change significantly. Marrying the future Queen comes with enormous responsibility. How are you preparing for this new role?
A: (pauses thoughtfully) I know it’s a great responsibility, and I don’t take that lightly. But to me, this isn’t just about duty—it’s about standing beside Victoria.
I’ve had the privilege of witnessing firsthand how dedicated she is to her role, how much she cares for the people, and how seriously she takes her responsibilities…take her work with Early Years, for example. And if I can support her in that—if I can be there to lift her up, to share the burdens and the joys—then that’s something I embrace wholeheartedly.
I’ve spent years in the Royal Navy, learning about leadership, service, and commitment. I know that stepping into this role means adapting, learning, and always striving to be the best version of myself. But at the core of it, it’s simple: if I get to spend my life with Victoria, then I wouldn’t have it any other way.
V: (smiling proudly) And I have absolutely no doubt that he’ll do an incredible job. He’s already been such a fundamental part of my life and my support system, and I know he’ll bring that same strength, kindness, and dedication into this role.
The Proposal—A Magical Moment in Sulani
BN: That’s beautiful to hear. Now, tell us about the proposal! How did it happen?
A: (laughs, looking at Victoria) Ah, well, I actually asked Their Majesties for their blessing months ago. I wanted to be sure that when the time came, everything was right.
I proposed in Sulani—one of our favorite places, where we’ve made so many memories over the years. We were by the water at sunset, just the two of us, and—well, I barely got the words out before she said yes. (laughs, squeezing Victoria’s hand)
But the best part was what came after. I had secretly arranged for our families and closest friends to be there, so after the proposal, we walked back to this beautiful private dinner—and everyone was waiting to celebrate with us. Seeing Victoria’s face in that moment was priceless.
V: (laughing, eyes shining) It was the most perfect moment. I was completely overwhelmed! One moment, it was just the two of us, this incredibly intimate and special moment—and then suddenly, everyone we love was there. It was magical.
BN: That sounds like a dream proposal! So, what comes next? Have you started planning the wedding? And—dare I ask—thoughts on children?
V: (laughs) Oh, we’re still soaking it all in! But yes, we’ve started thinking about the wedding. We want it to be a celebration of love, family, and the future.
A: Yes, and most importantly, we want it to feel true to us. There’s a lot to consider, but at the heart of it, it’s about committing to each other in front of the people we love and the nation we both care about deeply.
V: As for children… we’re not sure how many just yet, but we know we want a family. Family is the most important thing for both of us, and we’re really excited for that next chapter—whenever it comes. And honestly, I can’t wait to see Albert as a father.
A: (smiling warmly) And I can’t wait to see Victoria as a mother. She’s already the most loving and caring person I know. It’ll be a beautiful adventure when the time comes.
BN: And finally, what would you like to say to the people who are celebrating this moment with you?
V: (smiles warmly at the camera) Just—thank you. The love and support we’ve received since the announcement has been overwhelming in the best way. We are so grateful to share this journey with all of you, and we can’t wait for what comes next.
A: Yes, thank you. It means the world to us. And we promise to do our very best—for each other and for all of you.
BN: Well, on behalf of everyone watching—congratulations once again! We wish you both nothing but happiness as you step into this exciting new chapter together.
V&A: Thank you! (smiling at each other, hands intertwined as the interview wraps up.)
