Sleevefacer, the iPhone / iPod / iPad app

For vinyl fans with huge record collections or for those lucky individuals who discovered the forgotten treasures in their parents’ or grandparents’ basements or attics, traditional sleevefacing can offer hours and hours of entertainment. But, what if you don’t fit into either of those categories, OR if you DO have access to stacks of vinyl...you can’t take it with you everywhere you go.

My brother and I used to sleeveface as kids with the Kiss solo albums, as well as with all the stuff we found in our parents record collections...from Louis Armstrong to Burl Ives to Tammy Wynette. So we developed an app to replicate the experience of traditional sleevefacing as close as possible.

With the Sleevefacer iPhone app (99¢ on the app store) you have access to your music library and album artwork right on your iPhone. You simply choose an album sleeve and the artwork is superimposed over a camera view on your iPhone. Then you resize it, rotate it or move it to line it up just right...then snap a photo. It’s easy, fun, creative and once you get started it’s very addictive.

Sleevefacer...It’s a brand new app that allows you to get creative with your music library. It’s a whole new way to look at music.

New Feature in v1.4: Album Info in Exif Tags

Sleevefacer now saves the album or song title, and artist name, as Exif tags in the photo saved to your Camera Roll. When you import your Sleevefacer photos into iPhoto, or elsewhere on your laptop of desktop, the album artwork information goes along with the photo!

Sleevefacer's view of the Camera Roll can display this info. In the Settings app, scroll down to the Sleevefacer app and select it, then turn on the Display in Camera Roll setting. You can also use the slider to adjust the color of the info badge that is displayed when browsing your Camera Roll. Once this setting is turned on, you can still touch the info badge when browsing photos to make it disappear, so that you can see the photo unobstructed... and touch the area again to make the info badge appear again.

You can also view the Exif tags in apps on your laptop or desktop... in iPhoto, select your Sleevefacer photo and view its "Info"... in Preview on OSX,  use CMD-I to show the Inspector.

New Feature in v1.4: My Favorites

Snapping photos is only part of using the Sleevefacer app.

The other part is the endless search for album artwork that would make a great sleeveface photo.

So we've added a "My Favorites" list to the app. It's displayed at the top level of the lists pages. It begins empty, and collects the albums that you add to it.

For album artwork in your iPod Library and in your Photos Library, you've already got it, it's not going away, so you can't add these to your "My Favorites" list.

But for items from the "Favorite Picks" list, and from the iTunes top lists... which change any time... you can add these items to your "My Favorites" list. When previewing an item from these lists, tap the "+" button in the lower right corner, and the item will be added to your "My Favorites" list. And you can edit your "My Favorites" list, to delete items that no longer tickle your fancy.

Your "My Favorites" list... always at the ready, when the opportunity for a sleeveface presents itself!
