Fuck everyone!
jiggly days & blacksoup nights
haven't posted in a while.
lots of stuff going on in my life has prevented me from even being remotely interested in updating this. a good friend of about 12 years passed away a week and a half ago of non-hodgkins lymphoma. i'm still grappling with how i feel about it.
my girlfriend's grandmother also passed, probably about a month ago...and then her cat had to be put to sleep. i had to dig a cat grave. it was fucking tough.
July 27th was also the 6 year anniversary of another friend of mine who died way too early...someone that couldn't compare to anyone else. a god amongst slugs.
on top of those things i've just been working every single day at at least one of my three jobs. often working two in one day making it about a 13 hour work day. today i worked at the bookstore 11 - 7 then worked editing 8 - 2:30.
so basically i've been fucking exhausted.
but i've still been hunting when i get the chance. There's a goodwill about ten minutes from my editing job so i've swung by there a couple times when i have the chance and picked up some random shit.
but last week i had a few hours to kill in between jobs and i took a tour of old favorite thrift store video spots. Salvation Army in Green Brook, Unique in Union, and Goodwill in Springfield.
Salvation Army had a few good things but nothing special. Unique had fucking nothing. But that Goodwill had the most incredible find:
My Pet Monster: The Live Action Movie!!!
When I first started consciously collecting VHS if I made a list of dream finds, this would be at the top of the list. Hands down one of my favorite tapes that me and my brother used to rent from the grocery store. and i got it for 50 cents.
I love my My Pet Monster. Fuck you.
took a quick trip to goodwill in east brunswick the other day on my way to work and picked up the following:
The Empire Strikes Back (CBS FOX) The Return of the Jedi (CBS FOX) Monty Python's The Life of Brian (Warner Home Video Clamshell) Jackie Brown The Road To Wellville St. Elmo's Fire Bad Influence
So instead of doing video segments i've decided that i'm going to start doing these audio things. its easier and more interesting (i feel) than typing out things...although i will still be writing about stuff too from time to time.
I started recording with the intention of seeing how the microphone sounded and ended up just talking for fifteen minutes.
so enjoy me rambling.
note: i realize that it's june 1st and not january 1st.. i'm tired. cut a slacker some slack, jack.
this past week has been crazy for me. I've been working 13 hours most days between two jobs. squeezed in band practice last night for a show we're playing tomorrow (today). barely saw my girlfriend. haven't made it back to Premiere to get that neon sign or vhs camera.
i did, however, manage to get to my parents house and transport my bed and all my movies. So i finally have everything here. i hope to soon have the time to unpack them and organize.
a creepy guy at work today told me that i have "boarding house reach" or some crazy shit. he said i "must've eaten 'em out of house and home." but he said that i looked good. and then he thanked me, presumably for giving him the time to reminisce about his days in the boarding house where he would "take the last biscuit" with his creepy trembling fingers. i only wish that i could have expressed to him how uninterested I was in having him wear my skin in his trophy room. instead i welcomed his thanks and briskly walked to the break room where i vomited up my testicles.
sleep well.
the last gasp
okay, friday night i took a trip to Premiere Video in Princeton. Their stock is crazy depleted on the DVD/Bluray side but still a bunch of VHS...though i still kick myself for not getting half the shit in the horror/scifi/cult sections that they had on my first trip there months ago. Since they're closing their doors on June 1st I decided to get as much shit as I could. So here's a shitty iPod low light picture of what I got
Top to Bottom, Left to Right:
Ghostbusters (Clamshell) Invasion of the Body Snatchers '78 (Big Box) Interiors (Big Box) The Gnome Mobile (Clamshell) The Barefoot Executive (Clamshell) The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes (Clamshell) Ice Pirates (Big Box) Ghost Fever Munchie Strikes Back Still Not Quite Human Big Girls Don't Cry...They Get Even Big Top Pee-Wee And You Thought Your Parents Were Weird Kiss of the Spider Woman Spanking the Monkey Permanent Record The Extreme Adventures of Super Dave Problem Child Prehysteria! National Lampoon's Senior Trip Mannequin Two: On The Move Problem Child 2 Class of 1984 Poltergeist 2 Top Secret Return to Horror High Collision Course Better off Dead Frankenweenie My Best Friend is a Vampire King Ralph
I hate to be excited about the death of something beautiful, but the store is also selling off all of their fixtures and things. I'm heading there early tomorrow so i can talk to an owner about buying their big neon "NEW RELEASES" sign (20 BUCKS!!). There was also a sign saying they were selling a VHS camera for 25 and a tripod for something like 15....i'm gonna see if i can get a deal and maybe some more of those old Disney clamshells.
ehhh
so i don't know what's going on with the whole Mondo Video thing, if it's just a collector label thing like the posters or what...but when i went to buy the Sledgehammer VHS tuesday night it was already sold out. I sent a message to Mondo asking what their plan was (especially because i saw a copy of it on eBay for $75 that said limited edition of 100) and they haven't gotten back to me yet. If this is gonna be a limited edition thing i call bullshit on Mondo. i have extensive opinion on this matter but not the time to type it out. expect that at a later time.
went back to the goodwill on rt 18 in east brunswick the other day before work.
picked up u that Prom Night 3 with the cut case i mentioned before...got a bootlegged copy of Jerry Springer Too Hot For TV which has some weird motown singer performance at the end that it was taped over.. got Short Circuit 2 (cut box) and Evil Dead 2.
leaving now to check out what's left at Premier Video in Princeton before they close at the end of the month.
then getting the best pizza ever at Nomad pizza in Hopewell.
god bless mondo
Mondo Launches VHS Label TODAY!
There's been a few VHS special releases in the past few years (Trash Humpers, House of the Devil) but this is probably the best news possible for the future of VHS.
in other news, vhshitfest reminded me that it's flea market season, so i took a trip to the Englishtown Flea Market with my girlfriend yesterday instead of spending mother's day with the woman i barely speak to. Here's what I picked up:
TMNT: Sewer Heroes Series: Michaelangelo Meets Bugman
TMNT: April Foolish (Burger King Kids Club)
The Garbage Pail Kids Movie
Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me
Spaceballs
Muppets Take Manhattan
Toxic Crusaders: The Making of Toxie
Night of the Living Dead (Colorized Version)
Return of the Living Dead 3 (Screener Copy)
Not a bad trip for tapes but the best part was the pork shishkabob i got.
i will forever dream about that pork.
Next weekend we're going to Collingswood.
I wonder how their shishkabobs are.
