Ā Jun looks up from his desk, only to come face-to-face with none other than the absoluteĀ lastĀ person heād expect to want to do anything remotely spontaneous.
Ā "Hikari.ā He breathes out her name in some sort of relief, almost like just being able to speak it was enough to let his strained muscles relax instantly. Ā "What are you doing here?ā
Ā "What? I canāt come see your new office?ā Hikari teases. She lets her eyes sweep across the room, surveying all the boxes stacked along the walls. āBut looks like you havenāt really set up yet. Donāt worry. I didnāt set up my own office at the League until a couple months in.ā
Ā "Haha, right,ā Jun says, smiling. "So youāre telling me itāll take years since youāre way more organized than I am, Kari Kari?ā
Ā "You said it, not me!ā
Ā They both laugh at the exchange before settling into a comfortable silence. Itās only been a few days since they last seen each other, but Jun was used to not seeing Hikari for weeks or evenĀ monthsĀ at a time. So seeing her now after such a short span of time made Junās heart flutter with anticipation. Especially now more than ever. Hikari is still Sinnohās Champion, however, Jun wasnāt just her bumbling rival or sidekick anymore.
Ā "Congratulations on defeating your dad,ā Hikari says. She rifles through her bag for a moment before drawing out a large campaignĀ bottle. āCare to celebrate, Tower Tycoon?ā
Ā "With you? Are you kidding? Iāve beenĀ dyingĀ to brag about this win for days! Give it here.āĀ
Ā Jun reaches into one of the drawers in his desk and pulls out two cups. In the meantime, Hikari manages to pop the champaign bottle open. Before Jun is able to take a sip out of his cup, Hikari clinks her cup against his.
Ā "Itās weird seeing you so grown up,ā Hikari whispers, and Jun notices her eyes glaze over for a second. He wonders if sheās thinking about their entire childhood together. āIāmĀ so grown up now.ā
Ā "I donāt know. I think Iām still a child at heart,ā Jun murmurs. He meets Hikariās eyes then, and he canāt help but feel his face begin to heat up under her intense stare. "So what adventure were you thinking of?ā
Ā "I was hoping youād have an idea.ā
Ā "You. Me. Anywhere.ā
Ā "Wow,Ā soĀ specific,ā she grumbles, and Jun throws his head back in laughter becauseĀ yes, heās missed this so much. Too much.
Ā "How about a toast to a beginning of a new adventure, whatever that may end up being?ā Jun raises his cup, grinning. Hikari ends up shooting him a glare. āOh, come on, Kari Kari. Donāt make me fine you for this too. You already owe me your entire life at this point.ā
Ā "Youāre an idiot.ā She clinks their cups together anyway.
Ā "To you, to me, to adventure ā together,ā Hikari says moments later, and Jun canāt help but laugh at that too.

Okay so for people who donāt know already, Iām writing a novel, and it is called Kingdred. The preview can be found here.
So there are a LOTĀ of characters in Kingdred, but the five main characters are the ones whose POVs (third person) the story follows.
Angelina:Ā very smol and tiny princess who comes in a big box of whoopas badassness and has political involvement in her kingdom.
Nilesh:Ā farmer by day, illegal fight by night, and all-around big brother with a gigantic sister complex and who has an appreciation for muscular men.
Thomas: bastard prince who looks to be a badass but secretly has a weak stomach and a tsundere who deep down loves his princess sister very much.
Yuna: spiritual wielder (magician basically) who likes to tease others but can blush with the deepest shade of crimson whenever teased back and always is positive to a fault.
Javier:Ā flirtatious, moody assassin rebel who is in love with knives and secretly wants to be part of a family and does feel like he is (or has become) part of a family and becomes very angry child when said family is threatened.
