REEBOK • SHAQNOSIS • 1995 • BASKETBALL ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The #REEBOK #SHAQNOSIS was the fifth signature shoe designed for the games most dominating big man, Shaquille O'Neal. The shoe originally started out as a design exercise within Reeboks advanced concept team, to come up with a new form of cushioning with the whole style built around it. The circles represented ripples spreading outward from the center and the black and white color scheme was used for maximum contrast. The Design of the shaqnosis at the time made it a love it or hate it shoe for many and as a result, Reebok only released the black and white colorway. The pair that Shaq wore on the court was different than those sold at retail. Shaq's pair featured a high cut as well as Reeboks Insta Pump technology on the outer ankle.

NIKE • AIR HYPERFLIGHT • 2001 • BASKETBALL ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Released in 2001, the #NIKE #AIRHYPERFLIGHT was inspired by Nike founder Bill Bowerman, who had recently passed away. Designer Eric Avar wanted to design a basketball shoe the way Bowerman would have. The result was a track spike silhouette for the basketball court. Avar stripped down the shoe to its bare essentials making the shoe as lightweight as possible, the way Bowerman would have designed it. The Nike Hyperflight design was minimalist while still looking futuristic.

REEBOK • INSTA PUMP FURY • 1994 • RUNNING ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The #REEBOK #INSTAPUMPFURY was the first in Reeboks running line to utilize its Pump technology which was first released in the form of a basketball shoe in 1989. Designer Steven Smith wanted to do something dramatic with the #REEBOKPUMP technology. The design started out as a way to showcase Reeboks best technology, similar to what car companies do with flashy concept cars. The original thought behind the #INSTAPUMP was for it to fit that could be tailored to each individual wearer. The laceless upper was partly influenced by ski boots, where the wearer controlled the fit of the shoe through the Pump technology. Part of the upper design on the #FURY was inspired by early designs of Reebok competitor New Balance.

NIKE • AIR CARNIVORE • 1993 • TRAINING ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Released in 1993, the #NIKE #AIRCARNIVORE was the Nike Huarache Trainer on steroids. The Air #CARNIVORE was entirely laceless and closed via a complex series of straps and buckles. This high cut trainer featured a Neoprene boot underneath its straps to provide a comfortable and secure fit. The original color scheme of black, green, white, and purple, helped make the #NIKECARNIVORE stand out even more. The inspiration for the shoe is rumored to be the 1993 blockbuster hit, Jurassic Park.

ADIDAS • MICRO PACER • 1984 • RUNNING ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The #ADIDAS #MICROPACER was launched during the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. The shoe was was well ahead of its time in numerous ways. Design wise, the silver upper on the shoe went against the status quo for the time. The shoe featured a lace cover as well as a small pocket on the right foot for your change and keys. The Micro Pacers biggest claim to fame was its innovative on-board technology. The Micro Pacer had a sensor in the big toe that connected to a microprocessor, embedded in the tongue in the left foot, that was triggered whenever the wearer pushed off the ground. When the runner stopped, the shoe reacted accordingly. The microcomputer calculated distance, average pace, and calories burned. The left tongue featured digital LCD display that displayed the users data. Another first for the shoe was its price, the Micro Pacer was the first shoe to retail for more than $100 in the United States.

NIKE • AIR FOAMPOSITE ONE • 1997 • BASKETBALL ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The #NIKE AIR #FOAMPOSITEONE made its debut on the feet of Mike Bibby at the 1997 NCAA tournament. Inspired by a sunglasses case and the aerodynamics of a beetle, the #FOAMPOSITE ONE was designed to be a one-piece seamless upper. The car company Daewoo helped Nike with the manufacturing process for the shoe. The process of the making the Foam material started off by boiling it in liquid form at a temperature between 130-175 degrees Fahrenheit. The liquid was then poured into a mold where it was cooled and solidified. The cost of the molds alone were upwards of $750,000 each. The Foamposite One became the signature shoe of Penny Hardaway during the 1997 season.

JORDAN • AIR JORDAN I • 1985 • BASKETBALL ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The #AIRJORDAN1 is the shoe that kicked off the start of the #NIKE #AIRJORDAN line. In the early 1980's Nike was looking to increase its presence on the hardwood. To do so they wanted to find a player who they could market a line around. They found their man in a 6'6" guard from the University of North Carolina by the name of #MICHAELJORDAN . Jordan had originally had his heart set on signing with #ADIDAS , however the feeling was necessarily mutual. Jordan met with Nike designer Peter Moore who presented Jordan and his parents with a design of the #JORDAN1 and his ideas of how Jordan would fit in with the brand. Jordan was ultimately impressed and when Adidas would come close to matching the deal presented by Nike....well the rest is history.

NIKE • ZOOM VICK II • 2004 • CROSS TRAINING ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The #NIKE #ZOOMVICKII was the second signature shoe designed for NFL Quarterback Michael Vick. In 2004 Vick was at the top of his game and one of the most versatile and exciting players in the NFL. At the time Michael Vick was one of the few football players up to that point to receive his own signature shoe. The #VICKII featured a two-toned upper constructed from crafted leather and synthetics. The upper features a double lasted forefoot to keep the foot locked down as well as an adjustable heel-fit system.

NIKE • AIR MAESTRO FLIGHT 1 • 1992 • BASKETBALL ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The #NIKE #AIRMAESTRO FLIGHT 1 marked many firsts for Nike. The #MAESTRO was was one of the first basketball shoes to feature synthetic leather rather than the full-grain leather which was the norm at the time. The Maestro was also one of the first basketball shoes to feature a Phylon midsole which cut down on weight. Coming in at 12 ounces, the shoe was one of Nikes lightest basketball design at the time. Part of Nike Basketballs "Flight" line, the #FLIGHT1 was designed with quick, speedy players in mind.

NIKE • AIR REJUVEN8 • 2008 • TRAINING ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The #NIKE #REJUVEN8 was designed to help the foot recover after intense training through comfort, breathability, and fit. The cage design was inspired by a fruit net protecting Asian pears. The design also takes cues from the Olympic Stadium in Beijing which allowed focus to be placed on the intricate steel cage exterior and the action taking place inside.

NIKE • AIR FLOW • 1989 • RUNNING ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The running tight concept, started with the #SOCKRACER , was further explored with the #NIKE #AIRFLOW. The Air Flow featured a stretch neoprene-style toe box that hugged the foot. The shoe was designed to provide runners with breathability, new cushioning, superior comfort, and support. The comfort of the shoe was inspired by a plush teddy bear and designers literally used the stuffing for the cushioning on an early prototype. The #NIKEAIRFLOW was meant to withstand the rigors of a marathon which made it a perfect shoe for six-time Ironman champion Mark Allen.

NIKE • HYPERDUNK • 2012 • BASKETBALL ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The #NIKE #HYPERDUNK was the first non running shoe to use Nike Plus technology. The #HYPERDUNK2012 was designed to be a state of the art basketball shoe at the time. It featured advanced Nike Flywire for support, Lunarlon foam cushioning (the first time it was used in a basketball shoe), and Hyperfuse construction. All this combined added up to a basketball shoe that was lightweight yet responsive. The Nike Plus version of the shoe featured Nike+ Pressure sensors that collected information about a users movement and then wirelessly transmitted that data to their phone. Users could measure jump height, quickness, and hustle.

JORDAN • AIR JORDAN 2010 • 2010 • BASKETBALL ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ THE #JORDAN2010 is most remembered for its clear circular window at the center of the midsole. The thermoplastic (TPU) window was inspired by Michael Jordan's request for A transparent shoe and was a nod to his ability to "see through" his opponents. The #AIRJORDAN 2010 also signified a passing of the torch, as it was the signature shoe of Chicago native Dwayne Wade.

NIKE • AIR MAX 180 • 1992 • RUNNING ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Introduced on the heels of the success of the #AIRMAX1 and #AIRMAX90, the #NIKE #AIRMAX180 featured an air bag that was 50% larger than any shoe up to that point. The Air unit was visible from 180° of rotation by utilizing a partially transparent outsole. The Air unit was no longer sandwiched between the midsole and the outsole. The upper of the #180 featured a new stretch dynamic sleeve that flexed with the foot. The forefoot grooves on the outsole were an early experiment in natural motion.

NIKE • AIR MARIAH • 1980 • RUNNING ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Introduced at the Moscow marathon trials, the #NIKE #AIRMARIAH was the first nike running shoe to feature full length Air cushioning. The #NIKEMARIAH featured a seamless upper construction, borrowed from the Nike Eagle, to keep the weight down for long distance runners. Marathoner Alberto Salazar wore the #MARIAH in 1982 en route to his third New York Marathon win.

NIKE • AIR PENNY 1 • 1995 • BASKETBALL ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The #NIKE #AIRPENNY1 was the first official signature shoe designed for Orlando Magic guard, Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway. The shoe was designed as part of Nikes Uptempo line. The #PENNY1 featured a large wing-link Phylon. The wing gave the shoe a unique look while also providing lightweight lateral support. The shoe featured Air Max cushioning in the heel and Zoom Air cushioning in the forefoot. The tounges pin stripped pattern was inspired by the Orlando Magic uniform. Penny's 1 cent logo made its debut on the heel of the shoe.

NIKE • AIR ZOOM VAPOR 9 • 2012 • TENNIS ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The #NIKE #ZOOMVAPOR9 was designed and engineered to the specifications of Grand Slam tennis champion Roger Federer. The shoe was designed around Federer's request for a tennis shoe that felt like a running shoe for tennis. The Zoom #VAPOR9 features a dynamic fit system which uses a finger like design that molds to the wearers foot when the laces are cinched, providing a more adaptable fit. A TPU foot-frame provides lateral support for the quick cutting moves of a tennis player. Michael Jordan isn't the only Nike athlete to have a shoe be banned for color. Federer had a similar issue when Wimbledon banned his Zoom Vapor 9 with an all white upper and orange outsole for having too much color. Wimbledon's dress code doesn't allow any dark or bright colors.
