âI was born with an enormous need for affection, and a terrible need to give it.â
â Audrey Hepburn
Being afraid to love and being a hopeless romantic who just wants to be loved at the same time is hard..
This is for the people who are trying to be honest in a world filled with rules that makes loving someone honestly impossible. Where hiding what you feel about someone is important because you donât want to feel rejected. Where âdonât text him yetâ and âif you call now youâll seem too keen for herâ and âwhat did he mean when he said thatâ and âshe really meant this because of her body languageâ is now more important than what a person is actually saying to you. Where subliminal meanings take precedence over love, and not ever compromising on your ego is more important than love has ever been.
This is for people who still believe in things like speaking to someone face to face is better than decrypting their every little message, move and idea behind their backs. For people who are brave enough to tell someone the truth, no matter the outcome. For the people who text âToday was wonderful, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I didâ rather than trying to play it cool and text something âappropriateâ after an âacceptableâ amount of time has passed. If youâre the kind of person who tells someone you love them before they do because thatâs how you really feel, and your ego matters less than how you feel about someone, then thank you.
We need more of you in the world. If you are the kind of person who is honest with the people you love without thinking of how hard the consequences may be on your heart, please donât change that about yourself. Donât allow your heart to be hardened into playing games just like everyone else. Donât let the world fool you into thinking that youâre doing it wrong. Keep being honest. Because youâre one of the few who is getting it right. Keep looking for a love who is just as honest back.
And you deserve the kind of love that is honest, and true and good to your truthful, gentle heart.

I fell in love with you the way Prometheus fell in love with humans. The idea of them was so fragile, so childlike to him, that his need to protect them surpassed his need to protect himself. Just like my need to protect your heart from breaking, surpassed my need to protect my own. And as I stare at what remains of my heart now - picked apart by predators, I realise like Prometheus, how I suffer for putting myself second now, darling. How I suffer.

You know what hell is? Loving someone who doesnât want anything to do with you ever again.
Nikita Gill (via meanwhilepoetry)
Itâs okay to let go, itâs all right to say goodbye. Itâs a cruel truth within our lives that like the leaves of a tree, love disappears into the wind easily. How do you survive experiencing the most beautiful love and then suddenly finding it diminished or gone? You learn that love is, like sadness, like joy, seasonal. You learn that the only love that truly lasts in the love you hold in your heart for your family, for the chosen few and you forgive others for forgetting you. I want you to remember not to assess your worth by how temporary others have been in your life. Even if someone was wonderful, you need to realise that wonderful people have the right to walk out of your life too. In the same way, you have the right to walk away from a wonderful person because you have outgrown them. Recognising this fact will not just allow you to grow, it will help you breathe freer every single day. Stop assessing your worth by how many people have walked away from you. You have not walked away from yourself yet. And that is what counts most of all.
Nikita Gill, Why Saying Goodbye Doesnât Need to be Sad (via meanwhilepoetry)
People keep looking up to the sky and asking âWhy do you not help us when we need help the most?â They are lost, and alone, and feel their faith was blind. They do not realise yet, That if heaven exists, it is empty. All the goddesses and angels are all here, They see our earth is bleeding, hemorrhaging innocent lives and have been born again as human to help keep us alive.

âWhat is a queen without her king?â I donât know, but letâs ask Cleopatra, Nefertiti, Hatshepsut, Sammuramat, Victoria, Elizabeth, Amina, Tzu-hsi and the countless other kingless queens who turned mere kingdoms into the greatest of Empires.

I want to be a woman that competes with the moon. A woman whoâs gravitational pull could lead waves back to shore and little girls back from the depths of a world that tells them they arenât enough. I want to be a woman who is known for more than the curve of her waist or the dip of her lower lip. I want the click of my heels to send a message- tell every girl that they have permission to make noise. I want my lipstick to scream out the colorful story of how I found my voice. I want to be a woman with a heart so big, it fills up both sides of the bed. I want to be a woman whoâs light leads men home. A woman who can build a home all on her own if she needs to. I want to be a woman who crafts her children the world- hands them everything they need in a lunch box. I want to be a woman who hangs drawings on the fridge and unconditional acceptance on her bedroom door. I want to be a woman who raises daughters that love themselves and sons that spread kindness without apologizing for it with violence or ego. I want to be a woman who dances. A woman who walks topless through her kitchen and has sex with the lights on. I want to be a woman who eats without putting herself down. A woman who runs, not in the hopes of lessening the amount of space she takes up in this world, but because she holds muscle and strength. She has the power to move forward. I want to be a woman who moves forward. I want to be a woman who places stars in the sky while other people are just lucky enough to gaze at them. A woman who multiplies planets from her finger tips and bleeds a strength so raw it could stop rotations and send us spinning into somewhere completely new. I want to be a woman who exudes every ounce of infinite I see in my mother, my sister, my niece, my grandmother, my aunt, myself.

Will the "Real" Latina Please Stand Up?
Reading the tag, Tripping on syllables, The spanish language sticks to the roof of my mouth like peanut butter, Letters get caught in my teeth. I mispronounce âhumedadâ She laughs and âcalls my bluffâ    Youâre such a phony    You canât even speak spanish
I never said I was fluent.
Yeah but you're always like   âlatino powerâ and all that noise    And you canât even speak spanish.    I may not speak the language But store clerks will always ask me if I âneed any help.â and teachers âis english your first tongue.â and people âwhere is it that youâre from.â Everywhere I walk Iâm read as brown, a miss Latina USA pretty fat-assed spic girl They mispronounce my name. And yes my sister maybe I may not speak the language But at least I say my name right, Unlike you prima. Did you forget that the râs in your name are rolled? Or are you too busy making your name a little easier to swallow? Did you forget its sound? Are you a phony too? âDaniella De JesĂșs
This poem is all woman (What I will tell my daughter) Someday, you will be told that a womanâs gaze must never stretch as far as a manâs. That his should soar above the seventh heaven -like shooting stars between planets- to find himself on Saturnâs rings but yours- yours must never exceed the ceiling of your house because you were made different. Your place- lies in the cleanliness of kitchen shelves the dust between radiator and wall the stains on both carpet and floor- because you are a woman⊠nothing more. *** But this poem is called woman Called mother and wife. Called daughter. It is wombs stretching- filled with pain and love, lungs pumping life into new body and soul- ribs expanding, housing, embracing, caring, creating. This poem is all woman, It is hearts breaking- Aching for both infant and man. it is tender, patient , loving, forever, understanding, never, relenting, and always, always, always- real. This poem is all woman. All you. *** The night you are born I will take you to see the moon- Full and bright - itâs reflection filling the tiny pupils of your eyes And your father and I will Argue about whether to call you âShamsaâ after the sun Or âQamarâ after the moon. *** Your thirteenth birthday is when I will read you this Before periods, And heartbreak and boys. You will be as tall as me, Your breasts emerging, hips curving And your lips stained pink Because you are learning That being beautiful- Is more important to the world than being real, And that everything you ever did would always be labelled âNot bad for a girlâ And that in some places- Having a daughter Still brought shame on families. *** But this poem is called woman, Is all woman All you. This poem is a reminder of what it means To descend from a line of women With the strength Found only in martyrs who set themselves on fire to save their kin. This poem is all heart. It is to remind you That you share blood with women Who march with shrapnel in their thighs But fall to their knees the moment Their grandchild frowns, The same women who carry in the Wobble of their arthritic joints More strength than humanly possible. This poem is because you are one half of life, One half of body and soul. This poem is because You are a moon And you must never forget That you possess in you The strength to shine When enveloped in darkness- To smile when drowning in pain. *** You see, They might say That a womanâs gaze should never stretch as far as a manâs. No, yours must stretch further. Because you are a woman, Nothing less.
- âThis poem is all womanâ, Farah Gabdon. One of the most important poems I think Iâve ever written. I was commissioned to write and perform this for 'Forwardâ womenâs charity last year at an event to inspire and uplift young women and it was an absolute honour to do so. (via thegabdonwrites)
