Queer rapper Mykki Blanco says she was threatened with arrest for boarding a flight

A police officer threatened queer rapper Mykki Blanco with jail time for nothing more than boarding a flight, Blanco claimed this weekend.

According to Blanco, she was napping on board a flight from Toronto, Canada to Detroit, Michigan and awoke to find her co-passenger had called the police to ask why Delta Airlines allowed “someone like me” to sit beside her.

That Bill Maher could sit down with that Milo person and share giggles and guffaws over things like misogynoir, transantagonism, general anti-Blackness/Brownness, Islamophobia, and other forms of bigotry, legitimizing and humanizing each other’s perspectives, treating discrimination, oppression, and genocide as academic matters, eschewing their own marginalized identities in order to become white and partake of the privilege of the profound selfishness and ice-heartedness that white supremacy provides proves that, once and for all, for me.

All I keep coming back to is Maya Angelou’s wisdom:

“When people show you who they are, believe them the *first* time.”

And the truth of the matter is: Hasn’t Bill Maher been cruel from the jump?

And shame on gay people who oppress trans people. I imagine that there’s a special suffering due to that ilk.

FOLLOWING TODAY’S DAY WITHOUT IMMIGRANTS, THE MOVEMENT MUST ESCALATE TO A GENERAL STRIKE ON MAY 1ST

February 16: Today, tens of thousands of immigrant workers and business owners have gone on strike and closed their businesses in resistance to Trump’s immigration raids. Today’s nationwide strike follows Wisconsin’s Day without Latinos, Immigrants, and Refugees on Monday, led by Voces de la Frontera, which has inspired immigrant workers and their supporters to rise up. Following Trump’s executive orders on immigration, ICE agents have targeted some of society’s most vulnerable members. In El Paso, a transgender domestic violence survivor was arrested by ICE at a courthouse after testifying against her abuser. ICE has arrested DACA recipients and people staying at homeless shelters.

Voces de la Frontera joins the Fair Immigration Reform Movement, Movimiento Cosecha and others in calling for a national general strike on May 1st to demand Trump rescind his executive orders on immigration.

“Following Monday’s Day Without Latinos, Immigrants, and Refugees in Wisconsin, we are witnessing a spontaneous groundswell of immigrant workers, small business owners, and our supporters taking similar bold action to demand an end to Trump’s deportation raids,” said Christine Neumann-Ortiz, Executive Director of Voces de la Frontera. “We applaud the leadership of immigrant workers and business owners around the country in using their economic power, and we call on community organizations to follow their lead. We invite organizations and the public to join us in coordinated, escalated actions nationwide leading up to a mass general strike on May 1st. Monday, May 1st, 2017, must be a national Day Without Latinos, Immigrants, and Refugees to demand Trump rescind all of his executive orders on immigration.”

Trump asked black reporter, April Ryan, to set up meeting with “friends” in Congressional Black Caucus

During a frenzied marathon of a press conference Thursday, President Donald Trump asked black veteran journalist April Ryan if she was “friends” with members of the Congressional Black Caucus and requested she set up a meeting with them. 

Ryan asked Trump a question about his plans to help “inner cities,” a main tenet of his campaign platform. 

In a follow-up, Ryan questioned whether Trump planned to work with the Congressional Black Caucus — an organization of black members of Congress — to implement policies aimed at people of color living in cities. Read more. (2/16/2017 3:40 PM)

Here’s the history of undocumented immigrants working for President Trump’s companies

According to court records, back in 1980, Trump employed undocumented Polish workers to demolish the building that occupied the site where he would erect Trump Tower.

According to Time:

“The men were putting in 12-hour shifts with inadequate safety equipment at subpar wages that their contractor paid sporadically, if at all. A lawyer for many of the Poles demanded that the workers be paid or else he would serve Trump with a lien on the property.”

Trump has long acknowledged that undocumented workers helped build Trump Tower, but he continues to deny he knew about it at the time.

According to testimony and depositions, Trump was personally involved in hiring the workers and paying (or, more accurately, not paying) them. Read more (2/13/17 5:20 PM)
