Puss felt his heart clench at the words, and—not being able to stand his friend looking so distressed—he reached out, laying a paw on the wolf’s shoulder. “As if you ever could.” He spoke with feeling, causing the other to look back up and meet his eyes. “With how cuddly-looking you are, you would have to try. And still not succeed.” Puss smirked at him, trying to lighten the mood.

Slowly, a small but genuine smile wound itself upon the wolf’s face. “Glad to hear it.”
