i wish races were locked by horse level

posted this 2 minutes before going to work so here’s my full thought

my dream for an overhaul of the race system is this:

-when you first get a new horse it cant gallop at full speed (like we have now) but also it can only jump at half or a quarter height of the normal jump.

-races are sorted into different disciplines, and whichever ones you choose to do give you points towards the skills that correspond to that discipline

-dressage moves are learnable, not just a bonus thing certain breeds can do. dressage challenges incorporate these moves at higher levels (i understand why this isnt a thing, itd take forever to animate that for every horse, im just saying this is my ideal)

-horse level cap is 20 instead of 15

-races are also sorted into difficulties corresponding to the level you have to be in order to run them. starting at the level of difficulty that the bobcat track you do with tan in moorland and working your way up (in addition to this id ideally have baby level races in each area so you dont have to be stuck in moorland to do easy races before getting to harder stuff

-backing up your horse is also something you unlock by leveling up

-tack and clothes have to relate to the course youre doing. you cant wear dressage tack to cross country, or western gear to show jumping. (related, i wish you could save different outfits to your wardrobe and swap them out by going to it instead of having to individually change everything your wearing) (i also understand that people would probably hate this too. again, just my ideal)

as someone who was a staunch defender of the player character update i do have to say i really do feel a bit betrayed that even a whole 2 years later sso has failed to branch out with additional body types or really any afro textured hairs despite having such promising concept art. the update was a step in the right direction but its so disheartening when they don’t deliver

I think this is a big problem, that SSE has. They start on big projects, make promising concept art and then drop everything after part 1 of said update is uploaded and start another big project. they never finish one big update before starting the next, leaving a lot of features and updates half finished.

It takes time to build proper new routines and adjust mentally. Usually unmedicated we are always under stress externally or from our own procrastination/executive dysfunction, it takes a good while to recover from that

If it helps, I'm 2 years in now and after about a year on them I started getting back my creative spark. After 2 years I'm doing more creating and crafting than I've ever done in my life because I have the spare energy and time due to not being constantly overwhelmed and reminded of all the things I should be doing instead

If anything, they've lowered the sc price on a lot of nicer items (mostly tops) and greatly increased the ability to buy items with shillings (which I truly love for my alts that don't get sc). We rarely only have sc options for items.

And nowadays shillings are much easier to earn and store in your wardrobe from light, farming, and archeo.

Sorry guys, the change personally gave me the ick ☹️ I'll probably get used to it eventually.

I do agree that the game needs to start actually being coherent with its style for once, but I just can't find myself liking this change just yet. (This is just my own personal experience and feeling with this update, if you love it already, that's great!)

I'm honestly more mad about the Pintabian getting replaced with a Friesian, I really hate how SSE erases other breeds by replacing them all with the 3 most recent horses. I can understand wanting to add the new horses across Jorvik but this feels excessive and unnecessary. I don't like seeing Norikers, Selle Francais and Friesians everywhere I go, we need to keep the diversity of horse breeds in Jorvik.

We all get to have our own opinions! (I admittedly tend to be very pro for better or worse) I can understand that sudden changes can be jarring - for me it's a change that I've been hoping for but obviously not everyone will feel the same lol. But I'm excited!

Arabians/Pintabians feel very Bobcat! Agree it's a weird change to have a Friesian. Tan and Loretta have a Dutch and Belgian if I'm not mistaken and they're supposed to be the fanciest horses in the club (again, if I'm not mistaken!) I'm hoping they chill a bit and stick to having a few breeds more common in each area like they used to, that was really cute storytelling-wise
