Wesley liked the way those words sounded coming from Matt, because he too felt the same. But who was he being true to if he repeated them in return or if he showed any sign of agreement. Matt was to fun to banter with…so rather than say what his thoughts urged, I don’t want you to leave either, James played it smooth. Like a cat with a mouse toy, pawing at the chance to add more fuel towards bickering back and forth,

“I assume you say that because this would be the perfect prison for me: a city I don’t particularly enjoy at all. Poetically appropriate.”

Dark Horse: Natasha & Wesley ||CLOSED||

Tendrils of smoke lifted into the air around Natasha. Lingering, pitching, swirling. Dipping and soaring like a bird riding the thermals high up in the summer sky.  A perfect rich bouquet settled in the glass before her, lifted and overwhelmed her sense of smell. The warm spice of the wine settled in the back of her throat, and had a pleasant burn radiating.  Lifting it to full plump lips, perfectly painted with a deep red lipstick,  rich and textured, accentuating a model perfect pout. Natasha took one long drawn sip and savoured the taste on her tongue. Eyes momentarily closing as it was swallowed down, the warming path it made tracked before it settled in her stomach.  To her side a smoking cigarette, carefully balanced in a black ashtray perched atop a highly polished marble top bar.  All that was lacking, the company.  Elbow propped as leverage, she turned on her barstool. Back leaning against the cool marble, one leg elegantly crossed over the other as the wine glass was traded in for the cigarette. Lifting it to her lips, she took a drag, a cloud of smoke lifting above her head like a plume, as her astute gaze picked through the crowd in search of a sharp suit, and hint of unyielding expression.

Such an ungodly hour to be out and about like this, but the moment his dismissal from Fisk’s sight was set, James was street bound. His employer need only to be placed in the sanctuary of his penthouse for Wesley to truly relax and take the nights for himself. Sure, his phone remained on vibrate for any and all situations, but now that he was as ‘off-duty’ as he could be, there was a nourishing peace to be had in the after hours of work. Hell, he’d gone so far as to entering the wine bar with his jacket unbuttoned. 

On entering, the soothing notes from a piano played over the sound system hummed in the background. Light chatter filled the vicinity, but above all the clink of glassware chirped back and forth. These were familiar sounds and put James right in his element. He crossed the room toward the counter were he would sit and face away from the series of faces that filled the room, faces that reflected Hell’s Kitchen society, or...faces he just really, really didn’t want to look at. Two paces before reaching his selected spot, he felt eyes on him and turned, making visual contact with a very lovely looking lady. Regardless of the rich curls and overall charming appearance...her eyes told a different tale. She didn’t belong here...she was different.

Wesley rerouted in those final two steps, casually taking a seat closer her way and gave a slanted smiled. He’d worked with all sorts in his particular trade and she seemed to be someone who’s good side would be best to be on. When he sat up on the stool, he made no immediate effort to speak to her...but her presence beside him remained at the forefront of his conscious. Who was she? Someone important?
