"You see Starker as pedophilic but not Spideypool? That's hypocritical!"
No it's not, from my knowledge Starker started from the MCU where Peter is canonically underage. And the fanfictions I've seen they make Tony an asshole for grooming Peter OR trying to keep him shut because it would ruin Tony's reputation.
Spideypool started IN THE COMICS where Peter is in his mid-20s when he meets Wade and the majority of fanfictions reflect that aswell.
So yes YOU might have a headcanon that Peter is 18+ in your Starker but the majority clearly believe he is a minor.
But why does it matter if its pedophilic?
This is why it matters
It tends to normalize pedophilic behavior
It makes Pedophilia seem trendy and cool especially to younger viewers. Remember Marvel is a hot topic and shipping is getting more popular by the second.
(My very personal opinion here) It promotes attraction to minor's bodies by the art/porn made of these underage ships. (I hate to use onision as an example but he would watch lolicon a lot and he also finds himself attracted to underdeveloped bodies aswell. And I know he isn't the only one because I've met several people online and in real life who are like that aswell. We should keep the internet a non-safe place for pedos).
The most important point is that it makes pedophilia seem ok
There, never addressing this again
yawn. Guess I’m gonna revive this dead blog to argue this. To be clear, I don’t really care for fighting with antis much, I don’t think it goes anywhere, but like, come on dude. You put this in our tags. If you wanna have your opinions, fine I guess. Just stay out of our tags otherwise, you get this.
So, let’s break this argument down, okay? We’ll start with the Spideypool thing.
“from my knowledge Starker started from the MCU where Peter is canonically underage.”/ Spideypool started IN THE COMICS where Peter is in his mid-20s when he meets Wade and the majority of fanfictions reflect that aswell.” - You’re right, but you’re also wrong. Yes, Starker gained popularity from the MCU. But it’s a huge lie to say Spideypool has always been this nice sweet pure ship. I used to read Spideypool, and in 90% of the fics I ever read, especially the NSFW ones, Peter was underage. We can argue source material all we want, but it’s a fact of the matter, Peter is a minor-coded character. He is a kid in most of his comic runs (yes, even the ones with Wade, shocker) and he will forever be seen as a teenager by the fandom. Don’t argue schematics, because it’s just the way the fandom sees him. You have to specify you’re talking about a specific Peter (eg, Peter B Parker) if you mean adult!Peter. He is a teenage character in every movie series and tv series. The two are comparable because of that. That’s the point. No matter the ages of the characters in the source material, they will be aged up or aged down however the author pleases. Source material, especially for a fandom with multiple canons, cannot be used to determine the “pureness” of a ship. If you filter Spideypool by MCU!Peter, you will find thousands of fics. Thousands.
And the fanfictions I’ve seen they make Tony an asshole for grooming Peter OR trying to keep him shut because it would ruin Tony’s reputation. - Bish, what fics are you reading? Yeah, dark!Tony fics exist, but they’re tagged and warned like anything else. Starker has all sorts of flavours. I’ve seen fics where they’re a domesticated couple who are public and healthy as can be. I’ve seen fics were Tony outright kidnaps Peter. Then again, I’ve seen both of those tropes for Spideypool too. It’s almost like different people have different tastes in fanfiction and it has no bearing to the ship itself how one person wanted to write it. This argument has no weight against Starker, because if it does, literally any ship with more than a few thousand fics on Ao3 is a bad ship by this logic.
So yes YOU might have a headcanon that Peter is 18+ in your Starker but the majority clearly believe he is a minor. - Yeah, so? I don’t give a shit if the fandom wants to write him as a minor. I don’t. Fanfiction is not real life and fandom is not morality. Things fall into a gross and constructive grey space when you try to police what belongs in fiction and what doesn’t. Some people are minors writing it for their own fantasies, some people are just writing it to write it. Because it’s fiction.
But why does it matter if its pedophilic?/It tends to normalize pedophilic behavior/The most important point is that it makes pedophilia seem ok - It isn’t. Do we need to point to the dictionary definition of pedophilia again? Do you know what normalises paedophilia? Do you know what really brings paedophilia into the mainstream? Calling things that aren’t paedophilia paedophilia. It’s fucking disgusting that you would equate some smut about a (legal, 17 is legal in NY and Peter is 17) teenager and adult to be the same as an actual criminal abusing a child. It’s disgusting, and it lessens the weight of the word for it to be tossed around so flippantly. Paedophilia is a disgusting, deplorable crime and the more we use that word to define other things, the more actual paedophiles can justify and group what they do to having the same meaning as fiction. I cannot put into words how gross I think it is that antis have hurt victims more than help them through equating their trauma to fiction.
It makes Pedophilia seem trendy and cool especially to younger viewers. Remember Marvel is a hot topic and shipping is getting more popular by the second. - What? Yeah, this is exactly what I mean by saying antis lessen the meaning of paedophilia by equating it to a fucking trend in fandom. Just, no. Here’s the thing. If you’re a paedophile, you’re going to see and use anything to justify and facilitate your grossness. But if you’re not a paedophile, you’re not going to become one because of a fucking ship. Are there paedophiles who could use Starker to groom people? Sure. But paedophiles will use ANYTHING to groom people. Innocent cartoons have been used to groom. I think a great metaphor is the Jaws/Cujo metaphor. Jaws is a horror movie about a shark, Cujo is a horror movie about a dog. When people saw Jaws shark killings shot up, so naturally, Jaws made people kill sharks, right? But when people saw Cujo, they didn’t start killing their dogs. People were already afraid of sharks before seeing Jaws. People feared sharks and took a fictional movie out of context to justify awful acts. But people didn’t fear dogs, so they didn’t go killing their pets. If aren’t a paedophile, Starker isn’t going to make you a fucking paedophile. Make sense? Fiction cannot force feelings onto you that you don’t already have, but it can be used to justify things it didn’t intend because once again, it is just a work of fiction.
It promotes attraction to minor’s bodies by the art/porn made of these underage ships. (I hate to use onision as an example but he would watch lolicon a lot and he also finds himself attracted to underdeveloped bodies aswell. - Okay, wow. That’s a new one. As to the above argument, if you’re not attracted to minor’s bodies, then you’re not going to be just because you read a fic. I am thoroughly disgusted that you equated Starker shippers to Onion Man because he’s fucking deplorable, and a great example of an actual paedophile who would use your argument against you, saying that being into lolicon is so normalised it’s not a big deal. Because once again, if you equate paedophilia to stuff that is not paedophilia, paedophiles will use it against you. Also, On*s*on watched lolicon because he was attracted to minor bodies! That’s the point! He was already a predator, hence why he consumed that content! Furthermore, Tom Holland has been in his 20s the entire time he’s played Peter? And he definitely has a manly figure, and considering all fanart/fanfic of Peter is based on him, I don’t even know what you’re saying here with the attraction to minor bodies since it’s not the body of a minor. This entire argument is wild.
Basically, your argument is the same old thing we’ve heard before and we’re all tired of it. Have your opinions, I don’t care. I’m not trying to force you to like Starker. No one cares about what ships you like and what ones you don’t. But seriously, stay out of our tag and don’t treat us like predators and equate us to abusers simply for shipping fictional characters.
