I like the pairing enough to find the gifs and such of them adorable, but I admit to having never thought too much about the ship as a whole. Given my week+-long indulgence into the life of Aubrey Posen (and, as such, pushed my love for Chaubrey into the stratosphere), it almost feels weird to start thinking about a different ship at the same time…but if I can enjoy Bechloe and Chaubrey, I can enjoy Chaubrey and Staubrey. ;)
Character Head!canon Thoughts - Stacie
Stacie is shown to be a woman confident about her body and even more confident about sharing herself with others.
I believe she honestly enjoys teh sex, and I can definitely believe that she is bisexual - with pansexual being even more likely.
I’d like to theorize that Stacie is capable of finding good qualities in everyone, no matter how low their opinion of themselves is.
I’d also say she enjoys the challenge of making the people she indulges in romance with believe in their good qualities.
Given her enjoyment of teh sex, it’s only natural that she attempts to bring about this new belief by utilizing it.
At the same time, she doesn’t get overly close to anyone. Everyone is like a “pet project” to her - once they’re feeling better about themselves (or on the road to it), she moves on to the next challenge.
I’d say that she’s very upfront about the fact that these challenges are one-night-stands and casual, because she doesn’t want anyone thinking they’re not good enough because she turned down a request for a second date.
Given my innate desire for people to have at least semi-tragic backstories, I’d like to entertain the head!canon that growing up, Stacie learned that the best way to get people to notice you is to allow yourself to be sexualized.
She may have learned this from a mother who had her as a teen, who also had to continue exploiting sexual favors in order to maintain income. (I entertain more that rather than being a common prostitute, her mother was well-known enough in the industry to be involved in, say, gentlemen’s clubs or high-profile clients. Possibly not even getting to teh sex, but being there as a “temporary date” to make people look good on camera. Or something.)
The teachings may have been further implanted into her mind through a series of bad relationships, where the boys (and the occasional girl) really just wanted her around because she was hot. But as long as she played along, they showered her with affection and love.
I’d say Stacie focuses on utilizing sex to make others happy because it’s what she’s grown up knowing, and that she doesn’t really know any other way to help. So when people are feeling down, she comes on to them and makes them feel good again.
Academic-wise, my head!canon pins Stacie as a psychology major. I see her sexual trysts as “practice” to her ability to read people and find ways to assist them. I also see her taking the psychology classes in hopes of finding a way other than sex that will help.
Because while Stacie enjoys teh sex, I also see a part of her wishing that someone would see her for something other than her body (made difficult mostly due to her own actions, though they’ve become so second-nature for her that she doesn’t know any other way to portray herself).
Staubrey head!canon thoughts
Following the theory that Stacie helps people by coming on to them, I like to imagine the idea that she comes across Aubrey feeling down one day. (That, or she realizes Aubrey’s uptight nature is due more to frustration about something happening in her life.)
Falling into the idea (brought upon by major Chaubrey feels) that Staubrey is a temporary pre-Chaubrey ship, perhaps Aubrey is caught up by uncertain possible feelings for Chloe, yet doesn’t know how to handle them because she doesn’t want to believe she’s gay.
Discovering this through prying conversation, Stacie might decide to ‘help’ Aubrey ‘discover her sexuality’ by test-driving a relationship together.
There’s at least something there because she’s caught a number of people staring at her during rehearsal (Aubrey included).
Perhaps she convinces Aubrey to accompany her to a bar one night (in need of a “designated driver” or someone to walk back with her, and “no one else can go”) and while there, both girls get drunk and end up dancing together.
I’d like to imagine that Stacie comes up with a number of sporadic reasons to hang out with Aubrey (who is increasingly alone as Chloe hangs out with Beca), including things like studying together or having a class together or “conveniently running into each other”
I’d also like to imagine that a number of their times together end up with them drinking and/or holding conversations.
Aubrey comes to realize that she can talk to Stacie about her uncertainty about her sexuality, given Stacie’s surprisingly good ability to keep secrets and her complete confidence in her own sexuality.
I also see the proposal to experiment coming into play here, eventually.
Following the idea that this is meant to be Staubrey-endgame, Stacie gradually realizes that she actually feels more for Aubrey than a desire to help. She also likes that Aubrey sees her for more than her body, as indicated by lengthy discussions about mutual interests (dance being among the top choice of topic) and an unwillingness to participate in experimenting for some time past a first uncertain kiss.
Continuing the option for Staubrey-endgame, Aubrey would begin to feel the feelings she had originally directed towards Chloe shifting to focus on Stacie instead as they get to know each other better.
Thinking about this more due to recent posts on my dashhh.
Staubrey would take place before Chaubrey, but only because Aubrey is too afraid to jeopardize her friendship with Chloe to admit that she’s gay, let alone that she’s got romantic feelings towards her best friend.
Plus there’s the fact that Chloe is showing an increasing amount of interest in Beca, and Aubrey is currently stuck in the “friend zone” (and again, there’s that tricky thing about not wanting to ruin a friendship by admitting a crush, especially when said crush is actively pursuing another girl).
However, Aubrey can’t help but get increasingly mopey as Chloe goes off to do more and more things with Beca. Thus, in comes Stacie to the rescue! Her advances would start as a distraction, then evolve into more after she gets Aubrey to admit she’s gay.
