Happy birthday to my beautiful mother, Eva. Thank you for always making me feel loved and supported (and for always keeping me in the freshest '90s gear). You are the first person I go to with good or bad news and are always there to talk to when I just need someone to listen. You are so special to me and I love you with all my heart.

My #wcw everyday. @alexaholgate is my best friend for countless reasons. All we can ever do is laugh. We're so similar that we can understand things about each other that very few people can and we always seem to be in sync. We're different enough that we can give each other fresh perspectives. One thing about our friendship that I'm most grateful for is that she pushes me. She pushes me to be better, braver, and stronger. She pushes me out of my comfort zone, to take on challenges, explore the world, and follow my bliss. She doesn't just push me to do these things, but herself too. Today begins yet another adventure for her: she's on a plane to New York to start a new chapter in her life. If she loves the city and lives there for 10 years, perfect. If she only stays a few months and decides to sell all of her shit and move to Vietnam, equally perfect. Alexa lives her life on her terms and doesn't ever feel like she owes anyone an explanation. She's always true to herself and, to me, there's nothing better, braver, or stronger. I love you, babes.

My mom and I made the most of our 24-hour delay in Chicago by renting a car and driving to Michigan City, Indiana to visit the graves of my grandmother's maternal family, including my great great grandparents. (at Greenwood Cemetary)

The city is small and a lot of things were under construction, but it's a beautiful place full of artists, musicians, and the like. My journey backpacking around Europe solo for two months changed my life. I had unforgettable experiences in astounding places, not only with the great people I was lucky enough to meet, but also by myself which was equally rich and rewarding. I'd been planning this for about two years, saving money for this adventure plus grad school. I'm so excited about my future in Austin and will definitely find as many excuses as I can to globetrot.
