a quite brief biography.
The ground spat him back up—or rather, Hiroki “Harry” Nishina awoke in a panic beneath cold dirt on June 29th and successfully got to the surface. On all counts, he appeared the unremarkable 33-year-old—though there would be tells. But with no memory (excepting his name, after serious effort), no Misery locals who could identify him (and it had been unmarked, his grave), and no ability to connect to the face that must be his…
…Harry felt like an outsider from the instant his ancient lungs drew air. More importantly: he felt a hair out of step with the beat of his own drum. And not having a self, for Harry, turned out to be very, very hard.
The assortment of locals who eyed freshly-returned Harry with easy suspicion only made undeath more complicated. In an ideal world, Harry would be a precious piece of Misery, comfortable in himself and earnestly generous with others. Instead, he had no idea what he was doing, and one in every six people glowered at him deliberately. To solve all this, Harry believed, would be cruelly simple: be himself again. Make the miracle make sense. If only he could.
As days of painting around Misery’s dreary locales, staying at the Anchorage Inn, and ignoring that some people were legitimately terrified of him passed… nothing returned but Harry’s name. How to accurately portray this sadness? …It was like losing something Harry couldn’t remember, couldn’t mourn. It was like getting his hopes up by remembering he was alive, then breaking his own heart by remembering literally nothing else. It was exhausting, embittering, entire; it, rather than identity, defined Harry Nishina.
And it continues without mercy. Yet… in spite of a life bereft of meaning—Harry Nishina’s worst nightmare—he likes to laugh, paints what he admires, attempts to wear this face with courage. He may never understand what got him here. But he could understand something new instead; it could be, in the truest way, what saves his life.

thread the needle — wanted connections.
LOGIC AND INTUITION ( 0/1 ) ⸻ Excluding fervent pursuit of any truths about his missing self, Harry frankly distrusts logic. What comes naturally outperforms what comes with effort, in Harry’s judgment; there’s common-sense logic, which he approves of, and then there’s deduction, which—let’s face it—is often wrong. Your muse has a different view of this. Either a high-energy, clash-of-the-philosophies type connection… or a one-of-a-kind, well-balanced friendship.
TRY THIS ( 0/1 ) ⸻ Harry’s having a rough time getting back in the swing of things. Your muse is adventurous, bold, or familiar enough with Misery to never truly risk anything; therefore, they’ve taken Harry under their wing and are hoping to help him fall back in love with living. Maybe these two hit the tavern together, or maybe you have something more unique in mind.
ARTIST & MUSE ( 0/1 ) ⸻ Harry’s taken to painting your muse in different locations, different moods (maybe they’re expressive, or maybe subtly so), and different styles. It starts congenial but a formal arrangement; then it’s a friendship.
UNLOCK THE DOOR ( 0/1 ) ⸻ Harry has no recollection of living in Misery, and even if he did—well, it’s gotten odder. Though not any kind of expert in the supernatural, your muse hopes to educate Harry so he doesn’t get into trouble, enlighten Harry so that he gets it, or… watch him flounder.
AFRAID OF THE DARK ( 0/1 ) ⸻ The fact that this individual was once buried and dead frightens your muse. Harry’s not shy about his origins, only desirous of his lost identity; but for your muse, he’ll try to be more palatable. Despite the odd reflexes and wrong-sounding voice, Harry doesn’t need to be another threat—not in this town.

anatomy — psychology.
I’ll keep this short. Harry is a sensitive soul with a bold streak; that is, he often feels overwhelmed by life and its nuances but is fiercely devoted to individuality and fulfillment of (healthy) desires. Those desires include indulging his quirky sense of humor and giving everything around him an honest try.
Harry’s goals are to make the most of the hand he’s been dealt, to have some kind of family, and to forever be authentic (difficult, considering he has no idea who he was). Positive traits include generosity and determination; negative traits include impulsivity and pessimism.
Finally, his MBTI is INTJ (The Architect); his Enneagram is 7w8 (The Realist); and regarding astrology, I would call him a classic air sign, though I’ll leave the specifics yet another mystery.

knickknacks — a few extras.
AESTHETIC ⸻ a faded masterpiece, old pennies at the bottom of a local fountain, leftovers, ripping open a packet of common seeds, how water tastes when you’re thirsty, cold skin, the authentic smile that still looks wrong, dandelions, marble, and white wine.
THEMES ⸻ the art of replacement; metaphors for getting older; absolute versus flexible honesty; life as two-dimensional—it can be painted over; lethal simplicity; the concept of deserving things; and growth in poor dirt.
INSPIRATIONS ⸻ Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, A Grief Observed by C.S. Lewis, and “Jackalope Wives” by Ursula Vernon.
