so i underestimated my adhd when i claimed i was going to be able to write an essay without being forced. did a great plan, found all my supporting evidence and structured it. opened a word document and stared at it for five minutes. gave up. maybe i’ll do it for college next year, but it is highly doubtful.

I don’t focus on the Baudelaire children often but I absolutely need to talk about Sunny’s dialogue cause it’s all so bloody clever. In this I’ll focus on “The End”.

For instance, Sunny says “Janiceps”, which is explained to mean she is in two minds about the island. This has to be a clear reference to the Roman god Janus, the two headed god of decisions.

In response to Ishmael saying he’s sure they’ll be good colonists, she says “pyrrhonic”, referring to a movement of extreme skepticism, which is how she is feeling.

She says “Equivalent flotilla” to mean “we’re in the same boat”, which would be easier for an infant to say, but she is quite clearly taking after her brother.

One that makes me laugh is “Kikbucet?” AKA “Kick the bucket?” when referring to Olaf, unsure if he’s alive.

Basically my point is that Sunny’s speech patterns are not only non-naturalistic, but also present her as being just as much, as if not more of a child genius than her siblings.
