With Bitch Night Show 3 Pending, Lets Recap Awesome Show 2 in Review!
(Review & Photography by John McIntyre)
With the third Bitch Night on its way tomorrow night (Thursday 15th March) let’s have a little recap of how fantastic the February Bitch Night was.
Stage Time Promotions and John McIntyre Photography are huge fans of this Edinburgh female friendly variety show with its ‘Token male’ act/s to light-heartedly poke a little fun at the sad fact that in 2018 women still struggle in many entertainment fields to be included on the bill, never mind headline it, with many finding they are often the only female on the bill. It’s shocking that this is even still a thing but with great support from variety shows like this one being run by comedy hosts Isla McLean & Heli Kostadinova female entertainers will be seen & heard, and female audience members from all walks of life will have a safe welcoming environment for a great fun filled night out.
So, what happened last time? Well, we witnessed 4 acts entertaining a packed venue room at Edinburgh’s Cabaret Voltaire as well as our hosts introducing each act and giving us a little of their own comedic awesomeness. With the amount of people in attendance, it’s clear to see that news of what Isla & Heli have started this year with this monthly show is getting out there and people are eager to see what all the fuss is.
The acts last month were…
Sarah Norman (Comedy)
Kalina Buradzhieva (Singer)
Ciarán Dold (Comedy)
Suky Goodfellow (Spoken Word)
Ciarán Dold, this month’s only token male, opened the show with some stand-up. This Irish comedian was easy to warm to, who doesn’t love an Irishman? He had the room laughing pretty quickly after first offering them some foreign munchies he had with him. I was hungry and very tempted but being in the third row I had a feeling I might get them thrown in my direction instead of handed. I don’t like to give away comedians jokes when reviewing them but suffice to say he had a good mix of material and I reckon most audiences would like his act. I certainly did.
Next up was singer Kalina Buradzhieva (I am so glad I am typing that surname and not saying it). This lady gave us a few covers sang to backing tracks and had a great voice. Confident singer with a good range and being in between 2 comedians was a perfect placing on the bill for her and the audience. I would happily go listen to this lass again. Yes she had a little hiccup on one lyric line but recovered perfectly and quickly so it really wasn’t an issue in the slightest. Very professionally done and I will be keeping an eye out for her again. Great voice.
Sarah Norman was our second helping of comedy at Febs Bitch Night and this lass is sassy, confident and full of energy. Strutting her awesome comedic stuff in a Harley Quinn top and a cap I think she may have borrowed from a rapper she killed on the way to the show on the local LRT buses, this woman knows how to hold an audience. Her material was extremely funny and I found myself laughing very loudly and constantly. Along with Febs headliner Suky she was my favourite act of the month. Highly recommend you go see Sarah Norman as soon as you get the chance, she’s just fantastic.
Onto the headliner, spoken word poet Suky Goodfellow. I have seen and photographed Suky before so I knew I was going to really enjoy this act before she even hit the stage. This performer can spit her poems out as fast as Busta Rhymes on crack. Her lyrical content is both very smart and very funny. She even stripped down to her underwear for her art… and no I didn’t photograph that part of the show… as tempting as it was to do so. This woman is one hell of a nice person on and off the stage, she is extremely talented at what she does and I can’t recommend her enough. Anyone who thinks spoken word poetry isn’t entertaining or is somehow a dead act… you are soooo wrong. When it’s done to this high quality, it competes against any form of act you want to put it up against. If you haven’t given spoken word acts a go before, you would be doing well to start with seeing Suky Goodlfellow.
Well that was February’s Bitch Night. Just awesome and worth contributing to the optional donation hat on the way out for sure. Get along to this month’s one, 15th March at 8pm, Cabaret Voltaire in Edinburgh.

Hogwarts houses - wine notes
Gryffindor is a full bodied, Cabernet Sauvignon with presence. Fruity, but you can taste tannin. Pairs well with venison or game.
Ravenclaw is a dry white; Pinot Grigio. A touch acidic. Liable to spoil if not stored properly. Notes of melon and vanilla. A great accompaniment to fish.
Hufflepuff is a cheeky little rosé, which, though often derided as immature, has a pleasant nose conjuring up an image to the senses of orange blossom in a fading sunset. Slides easily down the tongue. Very drinkable at any time of the day or night.
Slytherin is a sweet riesling, aged to an impressive golden hue. An acquired taste, but once acquired becomes very moreish. At times cloying, with strong overtones of honey, and just a touch of kerosene. This wine is an undisputed classic, but not worth the money.
