Hiring Samantha Arias might just have been the best decision of Lena’s life, never mind her career. Honestly, she never understood how the other woman did it - balancing everything Lena had asked of her on top of raising Ruby - but somehow she managed. “You’re a lifesaver.” She muttered as she began to flick through the files, double-checking everything was in order - which, of course, it was - and signing off what she needed to for approval. She dropped the files back down with a sigh once done, looking to Sam at the offer, feeling her shoulders relax just a little at the thought of caffeine. “Have I ever told you you’re my favourite?” She joked, before shoving Sam’s arm lightly. “Though if you keep making comments like that, I might have to reevaluate.” She pouted, but the underlying note of concern softened her just a little. She knew she wasn’t at her best at the moment - make-up and killer heels could only cover up so much of her exhaustion. “But you’re right - I could definitely use some coffee.”
“yeah, i am. i’m glad you finally noticed,” sam teases. in all honesty, it’s sam who should be thanking lena. she gave her the chance when no one else would -- the younger luthor plucked her from a plane crash of an organisation and, since then, sam has been able to give her daughter the life she always promised: stability, friends, security. a life that sam never had herself. if she could, she would show her appreciation for lena every second of every day, but even at that there’s not enough time nor word in the english dictionary that would suffice. “here was me thinking that ruby was your favourite,” she then continues, smiling warmly at the other. “but yes, you may have displayed that once or twice, but did you know that you’re also my favourite?” she arches a brow. something tells her that people don’t tell lena this kind of thing enough. if sam has her say, she would never hear the end of it. lena luthor is the closest thing samantha arias has to family, and she’s not going to give that up for anything. “hey!” sam laughs as she wobbles from the playful shove, the movement pulling her back from her thoughts. “i’m just speaking the truth here, it’s not my fault you choose to ignore it, but yeah -- i’m just looking out for you, lena. it’s my job to make sure you’re okay, so suck it up and just do as i tell you, okay?” before lena even agrees, sam grabs the other’s jacket and tosses it at her. “i thought i was going to have to fight you on this, but i’m glad you yielded. god knows what would have happened if you didn’t. apparently us arias women don’t understand the concept of giving up, and the last thing we need is for you to waste your time trying to beat yours truly.” with that, sam loops her arm through lena’s and practically marches them out of the office.
