date idea

take your date to the state forest. leave your cell phones in the car. go off the path to escape the crush of people enjoying the summer sun. look under a rock and find a pill bug, the only terrestrial isopod. create a small maze for the pill bug out of sticks and twigs. put the pill bug inside. the pill bug, when it hits a wall, will turn either left or right. the next time that it hits a wall, it will turn in the opposite direction. notice that the pill bug always alternate its turns. this behavioral pattern helps it maintain its straight path while traversing the forest, rather than getting caught in a circle. while you impress your date with this knowledge, destroy or hide the map or compass that you'd carefully packed in your backpack. test your date to see what they've learned about navigation.

date idea

take your date on a walk through the park. swing on the playground. buy them an ice cream. any time anything at all happens (you brush arms, they don't laugh at your joke, you catch their eye but don't kiss them), make a note. later, alone in your room, create a branching timeline illustrating the diverging universes created by each event. consider showing your date this chart but instead become obsessed with following each parallel history as it becomes increasingly different from your own. pour countless hours into tracking you and your date's alternate timelines. never leave your apartment again.
