She wondered what his eyes were saying beneath his mirrored sunglasses.
Charlie sat outside his van, sharpening his kukri, glasses hiding those odd blue eyes of his. It was always nice, spending time with Natasha like this, especially whenever he was at RED base for a change. He glanced up when he felt her eye on him, smiling a bit.
"Like what ya see, love?"

âMhm. I can make up for all my time spent away from base,â Charlie chuckled, leaning down to kiss her on the forehead again. It was always nice, these moments of peace. âHowâre the kids doinâ?â
Her smile widened from hearing Charlieâs words. It better a promise to happen when the time comes. âTheyâre doing good. Madeline is enjoying the classes sheâs taking and Joey, well, he still need to be out of his bubble when trying to make friends. Always burying his nose in books.â
âOi, books are just as good friends as people are,â Charlie replied. âI was always a fan of The Chronicles of Narnia anâ The Lord of the Rings. Good stuff.â Then again he was nowhere near a normal kid growing up.
Sheâs trying to remember if she was like that at his age before the fire happened. Always burying her nose in books before Nathan or her two friends dragged her away to play with them. âI suppose youâre right love. But I still want Joey to have some friends and have fun with.â
âMm, guess a good mix oâ both is best.â Charlie leaned his head back, letting out a small sigh as he thought of his younger years. He was always antisocial, made even worse by his sniper training at a young age. Other than that, he did like working alone most days.
âI guess so.â She hummed softly, adjusting herself better on his lap before she leans against his form. âMaybe when you have time to spend time with us you can teach Joey from archery skills. Get him to do some activities with you.â And find more male role models for him.
âOoh, thatâd be fun. Set up an archer range. Maybe even teach him some survival skills.â Not to mention hiking, camping, fishing, and pretty much everything Charlie enjoyed doing when he had the time. He loved the idea of passing it all down.

Charlie had to squint a bit as his eyes adjusted to the sunlight. At least he was out of direct sunlight. He blushed, wrapping an arm around her waist and smiling, kissing her forehead. âNow I got a good view, too,â he chuckled. Up close, his right eye, the prosthesis, was a lighter blue than his real eye, and had an unnatural sheen to it. Not to mention it had a crosshair design that was really only visible if he opened his eyes all the way.
âThis is nice,â he sighed. âAll thatâs missinâ is a nice beach anâ some piña coladas.â
Itâs great that she gets to be closer to him, meaning she could admire his face better, taking note of the crosshair seen faintly though his half lidded gaze, to the slight color difference in both eyes. How she still have a thing for people with heterochromia after all these years, he was still under that category.
âThat sounds like a lovely idea to do one day.â She hummed once more, agreeing to his thought. âI would love to see the sea again.â
âMaybe during furlough,â he mumbled in response. He always did love the beach. He liked sitting in the water or scrounging up shells and rocks and crabs that were buried in the sand. Heâd always had an affinity for digging.
âYeah, weâll defo have to go travelling one oâ these days.â
Natasha caught word of what he mumbled and let out a soft hmm to agree with him. Itâs been a while since she was last given furlough so when the time comes, and with good timing for her childrenâs school break, they can all go to the beach.
âI like the sound of that. I get to spend more time with you.â
"Mhm. I can make up for all my time spent away from base," Charlie chuckled, leaning down to kiss her on the forehead again. It was always nice, these moments of peace. "How're the kids doin'?"

âIf you take off your shades,â she told him, her scarred lips pulling into a small smile.
Yes, Natasha was staring at him. More like admiring him. His figure, his relaxed posture as he mind his task, the only thing that got in her way was his sunglasses. Hiding away his eyes she can only see in the bedroom or in the darkness.
âPretty please.â
âItâs real bright out, love.â
That, and his prosthesis was fairly sensitive. He was so used to wearing his sunglasses that he even wore them indoors, and it helped keep the fake eye in check. No harm in taking them off, though. He caved, taking the glasses off and tucking them into the pocket of his shirt. âHappy?â he chuckled.
âThen I should have brought an umbrella along to shade us under.â She teased him, her smile now showing a hint of teeth. Compared to his and her fake eye, hers was lacking any vision to see through unless itâs being used as a scope or see in the dark for example. Hence why she forever wears the eyepatch. Better to think she has one eye than getting questioned why her sight is shit when she can never see with it, especially since birth.
Natasha hummed softly in approval once Charlie took the shades off. Content. âAlmost.â She got up from her little chair and decided to sit on her loverâs lap instead, leaning against his figure, and resting her head on his shoulder, now staring at him closely. âBetter.â

[ ROLLERSKATE ]:Â Â Â sender and receiver go to a roller-skating rink for a date.
Charlie nearly fell over the moment his skates made contact with the rink, and he grabbed onto the wall, trying to not perform an awkward split right onto the hardwood. He tried to regain his balance, glancing over at Natasha with an awkward grin.
ââŠitâs been a while,â he half-heartedly explained, eventually managing to get himself up onto his two feet, hanging onto the side still as he waited for her to join him on the rink.
Her mouth was twitching, ready to grin and break open to laugh at Charlieâs fall. No, she shouldnât do that. Thatâs both rude and humiliating for him. It was resorted to hiding her smile and chuckling behind her hand. Poor Charlie.
âI can see that, love.â Once he deemed to be alright, she stepped into the rink and skated ahead of him with ease. âDo you need help?â
"Nope, I've got it. Maybe it's like ridin' a bike. Like I get inta it an' then I remember how to do it..." Slightly sticking his tongue out of his mouth, Charlie put his feet together, pushing off of the wall and rolling a few inches forward.
"Aw, yeah, see that? I've still got it," he said, carefully skating forward with his long arms outstretched.

â....?? Ehm, howdy?â
[The hell? Wha? When? Ehh??]
âYou're in the Backrooms. Not a good place to be. Ah'm guessin' ya're here by accident?â
Charlie spun around at the voice, looking rather startled upon coming face-to-face with the Engineer. "...uh, g'day, mate. Yeah, it was real weird, I was jus' in my van, cleanin' out my fridge, and then I just- fell through it??"
â...ah. Yeah, what just happened is that ya nocliped. Ah donno how it works, but it happens. Ah got here the same way as yours...except with the ground.â
[Dell chuckled at themselves.]
"Noclippe-" Charlie decided to pause and taking a deep breath in an attempt to calm himself down. "Right, okay, I'm just gonna assume that nothin's gonna make sense for now."
