iris van herpen 2023 ~ carte blanche
Finally hit a career milestone today. Still have so much adrenaline from finding out which can be released in my ballet class. The first half of 2024 has really not been it but I have high hopes for the second half
Thought I’d let you all know I’ve been on a few more dates with the guy I mentioned below and it’s now going so well! The spark is somehow there alongside a feeling of comfort and security. Lol that I was so close to just culling it early on
Diamond necklace guy is over! It lasted a few months and just when I got comfortable with him, he stopped making as much effort. It’s almost like he sensed my heart wasn’t in it for a while and the moment I got more into it he withdrew. I was the one to cull it almost immediately after he switched and I honestly think he would have happily dragged it out.
My initial gut feeling that there was something lacklustre about him was actually right. He definitely didn’t share my same lust for living and he also prefers the pool to the beach (huge ick for me) so it never would’ve worked. He just had a functional vibe to him, it’s the only way I can describe it. It’s weird because his family/upbringing was very cultured and colourful so he almost managed to pass himself off as being like that but it does seem like he’s impressed by a completely different set of things compared to his family and me as well. A relationship cannot work when you’re both impressed by very different things.

It’s been a while!
I’ve been having a bit of a mindfuck over something and it’s reminded me of this community.
I went on a dinner date with a guy (my age, attractive, tall, intelligent, sweet, fairly wealthy, half south Asian/half white) and then I had my birthday a few days later. On our second dinner date he casually mentioned that he’d gotten me a bday present about half an hour in and he gets out a Tiffany & Co box. He got me a little diamond necklace and idk it’s just thrown me off. Nobody has ever done something like that for me after a first date.
This guy ticks so many boxes But I’m not even hyped in the slightest for our third date this weekend 💀
We have good conversations but I feel like I’m the one steering them and I’ve noticed he’s not made me laugh too much/doesn’t have the same silly streak I do. There’s something almost formal about him. Idk I want so badly to be excited but it’s not there.
I’m going to give it five dates maybe and then see where things go.
Period.

it is truly astounding how unembarrassed people are to have less basic curiosity about the world than a rural peasant from the 1400s
