The Milky Way: Invisible to most of us, but accessible to all!
âThereâs a big difference between âwell litâ and âbrightly lit.â If we take care to learn the difference, we can change the world. Take a trip to a dark sky location this summer on a moonless night and just look up, just for a little while. It might change your whole outlook on life.â
Recently, a team of international researchers has assembled the most comprehensive, up to date study on light pollution on Earth ever, including a full-Earth map of dark sky conditions or lack thereof. Its findings were disheartening but unsurprising, including the fact that 80% of Americans and 60% of Europeans cannot see the Milky Way. Although this may have detrimental effects to plants and animals, the largest negative may be humanityâs disconnect from the night sky, and the Universe beyond our world as a result. If youâre interested, itâs not difficult to find a dark sky location within two hours of your location, pretty much independent of where you are.

Rare White Curtain Auroras Seen Over Finland
Behold stargazers, this is not an art installation. These are actually stunning white Northern Lights in Finland. The stunning Aurora Borealis resemble a white curtain, which seems to be made by photoshop; but we promise you they are organic beauties made by the hands of Mother Nature.

Geminid Meteor Shower 2014 Went up to Mt Lemmon again for this one. There were some nice clouds near the bottom of the mountain from the rain earlier that day. Luckily the rain clouds cleared after sunset. I would have stayed out until sunrise and captured more but my lens was fogging up too much, needed some actual anti-fog lens cleaner. Was still great to watch! The next meteor shower peaks Jan 2-4. This is a composite of about 10 meteors. Also on Flickr // 500px
