Totally not based on an oc of mine but,
Byakuya Togami, Hufumi Yamada, and Jeffery co9 (separate) x Egotistical, smart-ass reader who get the Carrie-Blood Bucket prank done to them because their personality made them so widely disliked by most people... and to make it worse, the prank happened right as they were trying to improve themselves for the better. (This can be platonic or romantic.)
The reader is a renowned analytical prodigy in the Danganronpa universe and is just an extreme smart-ass in the co9 universe. Because of their smarts, they believe they are superior to everyone else but see only a few people in their life as equals, which includes the three boys for various reasons. Either for good connections (Byakuya and Hifumi are SHSL Ultimates), their smarts (Byakuya is rich and heir to an important legacy and Jeffery was valedictorian in game), or because of a shared "geeky" or "cringe" interests that the reader keeps hidden to avoid damage to their "superior student" self-image (key word being self-image, reader needs to be okay with liking "cringe-y" stuff lol). So they discreetly bond over anime, manga, etc, together with them (Hifumi and Jeffery).
Over time, the reader slowly learns to let go of their ego thwnks to them, but they're still egotistical about their smarts, just somewhat less than before but most people still find them annoying, obnoxious, rude, etc and plan to prank them on prom night to "knock them down a peg." Similar to the movie, nearly everyone rigs the vote so the reader and their date (or friend if platonic) would be Prom Royalty. Once the reader is called, they were grinning ear to ear on stage, holding their bouquet, thinking that they could maybe start changing for the better, be able to swallow their pride without crumbling inside in an argument, that people may be letting go of any resentment towards them...
Then blood bucket falls on them, and the crowd erupts into laughter. Some people even cheer louder, unlike Carrie, the reader is just the smarter-than-many high schooler. So instead of using psych powers like Carrie to set the gym on fire and get revenge, they tear up on stage and just run out crying, the cocky mask they wear publically shattering for the first time.
Byakuya Togami & Hifumi Yamada
„I‘m better than everyone else!“ was basically your whole personality. I mean- everyone already knew that you were a smartass and unbearable.You were so proud of your ultimate and it was very obvious from your behaviour (maybe also why everyone absolutely hated you). So obviously no one was even near as good as you!But that was one of the reasons why you felt like you had a connection with him.Byakuya, the ultime affluent progeny. Even though you didn‘t want to admit it, he was kind of like you… To start off he is extremely smart like you and also has a massive ego. Not to mention that he has a big status.But maybe that is why you two understood each other so good. That was exactly what you needed, a friend who is just like you.
At first he didn’t even see you as a friend but as an equal. But that slowly changed when you both got closer.You would spend hours talking to him about stuff that only you two knew about because others were simply too dumb to understand. That is what made your relationship so special! And slowly you realized that this friendship was a step to fix you. A way to make you likeable. And Togami obviously noticed your sudden change of behaviour.
„You are acting weird.Explain to me what you are trying to do.“
„I‘m trying to change Togami. What else would I be doing?“
Even though he isn‘t exactly great at that he tried to help you. And it seemed like you were actually getting somewhere. Talking to other people, getting friends and so much more. And so you decided that you wanted to go to prom.
When you told byakuya about it he was very dissapointed. Prom? While the whole school hated you? That was dumb.
„You shouldn‘t go to prom. You aren‘t ready.“
„Don‘t say I didn‘t warn you.“
Byakuya didn‘t actually want to go to prom because it‘s an „unnecessary event“ but you somehow ended up convincing him.
When prom night arrived you coudn‘t help but get nervous. What if everyone still hated you? What if no one wanted to talk to you. What if- Oh but it wasn‘t like that at all. It was actually amazing! People from your class were suddenly talking to you and complimenting you! It felt unreal. But you soon understood why that was the case.
It was time to choose prom royalty and honestly, you didn‘t think much of it until the called YOUR NAME?! How was that even possible? Now everyone was cheering you on and pushing you on to the stage, except for Byakuya.
„Look there is something obviously wrong here. You aren‘t even that popular so it is very unlikely for you to have been picked on purpose.“
„Let me enjoy this moment Togami! I know your jealous so leave me alone.“
So you got on stage and took the microphone.
„I honestly don‘t even know how this happened, I am so happy tha-„
And then it happened. A bucket of blood spilled on top of you. And suddenly what Byakuya had warned you about had made sense. They didn‘t actually like you and this was all planned. They did this on purpose to humiliate you infront of everyone. That‘s exactly what made it worse. While everyone started laughing you couldn‘t stop crying and ran off. Byakuya knew that something like this was gonna happen but still decided to run after you. And it wasn‘t exactly hard to find you crying on the street because of the red liquid dripping down your suit/dress. For a moment you both just stood there in silence until he broke it.
„I told you that something like this was gonna happen.“
„Look I‘m not mad at you but at them. So get up and stop crying because crying shows them that you are weak.“
You did as he said and leaned in to hug him but he cut you off.
„This suit was expensive“
Hifumi never actually liked you. There were rumors of you being the most arrogant and mean person in hopes peak academy and that was enough for him not to not like you. But he never expected a person like you to have similar interests like anime or manga. He only found out about it on accident.
You were walking to class when someone pushed you and your bag fell on the ground. Hifumi being the kind guy he is picked up your bag and ended up catching a quick glimpse into your bag. And there it was. The new manga of his favourite show! He was gonna ask you about it but you snatched it away from his hands looking extremely embarassed trying to stuff it into your bag. He understood and gave you a nod.
„Don‘t worry my fellow schoolmate! Your secret is very safe with me!“
That sparked something inside of you. Before you had always thought of hifumi as a loud and annoying person but it really didn‘t seem like that anymore. After that incident you two would hang out in private talking about whatever anime the both of you were watching at the time or stuff like that.
„I love magical girl Usami! I like how she has multiple magical forms so much that I memorized all seven of them!“
„Actually, she has eight forms because the author confirmed on an interview that….“
Yeah you are sometimes harsh to him but there is a big difference between how you treat him and how you treat everyone else. But slowly you start to realize that you want to be nicer to everyone and not just him.So you had a mission to improve yourself and your attitude. Hifumi obviously realized this fast and tried to help you.
Letting you meet his friends and having conversations with you where you tried not to say anything mean and sound arrogant. This tactic helped you slowly improve and it was all thanks to him.
Prom night was approaching and normally you wouldn‘t have gone if Yamada hadn‘t begged you to.
„Please accompany me to the royal dance and I will make sure that you have the best night of your life.“
So you had no other choice to go with him. Even though he has a hard time finding clothes that fit him, both of you found matching outfits to wear to prom. And when you actually went to prom was amazing. You finally felt like you belonged somewhere. People were coming over to you and starting conversations (something that they never did before) or complimenting you.It felt like you had the best time of your life. Until it was time to choose prom royalty.
You never expected to get chosen but here you were getting shoved on to the stage while everyone (mostly hifumi) cheered you on. Hifumi felt so proud of himself because he thought that all the training paid off. ‚They finally realize how great you are‘ is what he thought.
„u-uhmm… Thank you very much for choosing me fo-„
You didn‘t even get past your words as a bucket of red liquid poured on top of you. It took a moment for you to process what had happened. Everyone was laughing now. This wasn‘t an accident, It was intentional. That’s what made it worse. You were absolutely shattered and ran out crying while others were still laughing. Hifumi ran after you calling out your name doing anything to try to reach you, even pushing people away and tripping multiple times. But at last he managed to find you crying and curled up outside. He took off his jacket and handed it to you.
“Fear not, my dear maiden! These villains are unworthy of even your shadow!”
So he continues trying to cheer you up and it somehow works. Afterwards he pulls you into a hug not caring about his suit getting stained.
And after the incident he doesn‘t treat you any different than before. He makes you feel like it never even happened. Even if people still make fun of you, you are still trying to improve thanks to Yamada.
