IKEA raised its wages voluntarily. Opponents of the minimum wage oppose it, not because it involves raising wages, but because it is involuntary, and by coercion. It's quite unbelieveable, but some people are unable or unwilling to make a distinction between something done of one's own volition, and something forced by a third party.

Can you make a distinction between making love and rape? Would you ever make a sincere case for rape based on its benefits? Why not? Answer that question, (really answer it, don't just tell me that rape and a mandatory minimum wage are very different and comparing them is offensive - that's beside the point) and you might begin to understand why a mandatory minimum wage is objectionable.

Should all people have enough money to live comfortably? Unquestionably yes. All people should be comfortable and prosperous. Should a government implement a policy to attempt to force others to provide a comfortable wage? No. Why would you want to force anyone to do anything? Do you really think force is a civil way to solve a peaceful problem? Do you really think force can be more effective than education, negotiation, and charity?
