Shiv Parekh had always intrigued Emmeline. Two years older than her at school, yet his presence was unavoidable around Ravenclaw Tower. It almost seemed as though he was going out of his way to irritate almost everyone - but Emme had always wondered what might drive a man to act like that. Was it simply his personality, was it his drive for innovation desperate to get out, was it restlessness lingering from childhood? If she sat and reflected, seeking the truth behind her classmate’s actions had likely been the first signs of her desire for the real story, that she now wove into her journalism.
Shiv had weaved himself into Emme’s path a few times since school, but now it was Emmeline who found herself staring at the sign for Parekh & Co. She lingered for just a moment too long before pushing open the door, a small smile playing on her lips at the tinkle of the bell above the door that felt so muggle. There were many mirrors dotting the walls, which struck her as slightly odd, and she quirked an eyebrow at her own reflection in wondering - surely all of these weren’t people looking to get their mirrors appraised. Perhaps Shiv was just rather vain.
“Shiv? Are you around?” Emmeline called out, looking for the mop of black hair that she always spotted before the man himself. She tried to turn away from the mirrors, uncomfortable with staring at so many versions of herself, but it seemed that wherever she turned there was another one. “I’ve got a few pieces that I’d like to get appraised if you’re taking on new clients?”
