mini flashback: nov. 1st, 3:12AM

Owen waited despite his head telling him not to at this point. Why go through the stress of talking about shit that didn’t matter anymore? At least he’d pretend it didn’t matter. He just wasn’t about to put Harley through the burden of keeping up with his shit. It wasn’t necessary and most importantly, it just wasn’t fair. He watched as people filed off, the emotions of the air tense and the smell of booze potent. These people were all drunk off their asses and definitely angry at the prank that had ensued when they were all trapped on the boat. It was a late night and honestly, Owen might have actually gone home except for the fact of how late it actually was. He couldn’t do that to Harley, it just wasn’t right of him and so he waited. As soon as he saw her face pop up, his arms almost immediately crossed in a defensive stance, nibbling at the flesh on his bottom lip. When she was in ears distance, he turned on his heel beginning to walk, “--Lucky it only takes a nice twenty, thirty minutes to get you to your house.” Unfortunately, that’d be just long enough to start up this little talk Harley was itching for. He knew it’d inevitably turn into a shit show, both with his outstanding temper under pressure and the few drinks in her system and all he could do was sigh at that thought. He had avoided it for as long as possible, but Harley was stubborn and he knew she just couldn’t let it go. Owen could ignore her for as long as possible, avoid the subject and shut her out, but he knew she wouldn’t give up. He just wished that she would understand why it was so important for her to let it go. It hurt for him to think about much less talk about. Maybe if she saw the scars that littered him -- both from the accident and then prison -- she’d let it go. Or if she was able to see how tortured his mind was everyday, she’d leave it be. He was his own worst enemy and he refused to let her share in that pain. It just wasn’t fair. He allowed her a moment to catch up, wanting to be a little nicer and yet at this point, he just wasn’t in the mood to play games.
