‘ that’s --- real commendable . ‘ he’s in the homey corner kitchen of the amnesty lodge , elbows braced against the windowsill as he leans halfway out the window . one hand is holding on to a jug of borrowed ice - cream ( stolen , one could argue , but he did leave a sticky-note on the fridge promising he’ll replace it in the morning ) , and he’s effortlessly twirling a silver spoon between his fingers . joyjeet is standing outside , their frame relaxed as they drink in the last of the sun as it sets for the evening . he knows a thing or two about optimism , but most of all he remembers the weight of it . there’s a beat of silence as he digs the spoon into the ice - cream , carefully navigating it around the swirls of banana . ‘ i was . an optimist , that is . ‘ he begins to speak around the spoon before jabbing it back in the ice - cream , ‘ don’t think i’m one at the moment , though . ‘ or perhaps he is , considering his tenacious dedication to the bigfoot case . thing is , he’s not certain if that stems from believing he’ll figure it out , or from fearing not doing so . ‘ i’d rather like to be one again , someday . maybe not for the rest of eternity , but like- --- for a little while , at least . ‘
