plummet/meet
the absence of heat and the presence of countdown. gift wrappers and all the paper cuts. there he is, knowing just enough; there he was, standing by her side. the walls begin to shatter. people coalesce with music as drums rhyme with country and trophy friends with life. the snow had also begun to fall — plummeting hard but assured of a soft landing.
the lights flicker. the floor shivers. his feet missed this. the no-sock gaming missed him. bills and coins overflowed inside his wallet. sound of percussion driven by green-red rhythm caress his insides; soft and loud, he dived. then plummeted like the snow he used to watch.
one day remaining and the smell of fireworks began to cover the windswept atmosphere. smoke began to look like fog as time runs down like a milk splattered on the floor. the boxes become empty. the list becomes lengthy. he was ready. but he isn’t. their voices might not meet. middle ground, forgotten.
