"Let's make this a place worth living in."

Scruffy dungarees, a red beanie and her dark hair in a two messy braids; Hyorin looked far more like a ragdoll than anything else. Blue paint had been smeared against her left cheek and splatters of different colours decorated her ratty apparel. It was no secret that she lacked any sort of style, but luckily the type of people who volunteered at places like this weren't the type to judge.

Not that she'd know, because honestly, this was the first time Hyorin had every opted to do some volunteer work — how could one turn down the opportunity of painting whatever the imagination blessed them with on a canvas of walls? Albeit, art was not one of her prioritising hobbies; it did not mean she was any less passionate when it came down to it though.

After a wall and many accidental spillings, Hyorin and her partner sat down against the opposite wall for a quick breather. The male, which for some reason looked eerily familiar (she couldn't pinpoint where she had seen him before, but she was sure she had seen him. maybe at the dentist, or grocery. who knows?), turned his attention from the still-wet jungle to her. "Let's make this a place worth living in." His voice was low but pleasant and he had flashed her a large gummy smile seconds after he spoke.  

Slightly caught off guard with the sudden acknowledgement, Hyorin nodded her head, braids bouncing against her shoulders. He continued to look at her; she assumed waiting for a verbal response instead.  Half spluttering, the girl with the red beanie replied "O-of course. The orphans, it's the least they deserve. Let;s make it beautiful."

"Too many people"

"Too many people" 

The familiar face voiced an opinion Hyorin would readily agree with. Pressed against a stranger as a sea of passengers made their way through the narrow isle of the bus, it was an understatement to say anxiety levels were rising. In fact, the pale-looking girl was sure she’d suffer a complete breakdown then and there if she felt another hand brush against her bottom. That was until she heard the sweet sound of recognition. Wide-eyed, she searched for the turkey lady (which, Hyorin noted, had never gifted her with a name); finally catching a glimpse of the look of disdain plastered on her face. A sense of relief washed over her — familiarity was something that eased her uncertainties. Of course it didn’t erase it completely, and for someone who despised public transport, she wondered why on earth she’d insist torturing herself so. A few pushes and a stumble later, she was now standing elbow-to-elbow with the turkey lady, a silent greeting reassuring her. 

"Too many people" she repeated.Hyorin nodded."There are always too many people, some places just aggravate the situation worse than others.”

9: Do you always smile for pictures?

"Well that's a difficult one to answer because I once heard that taking pictures slowly destroys your soul — or was it may have been that pictures steal your soul, I am not too sure — so I tend not to photograph my own self. I mean, it may sound weird, but it makes a lot of sense because you know, eyes are the windows to one's soul and and and...I'm going terribly off topic aren't I? I apologise. To put it in laymen's terms, I usually do not but there are a few photos floating around with a toothy grin."

25 – ”I’m out of time.”

Half dressed, hair in a mess, Hyorin flew down the stairs of the apartment complex and out onto the streets with such speed that there was no possible way she could have prevented the collision. With a heavy 'thump', she landed on the her rear, the concrete grazing her palms leaving raw skin and a stinging sensation. Her first assumption was that she had charged into some sort of pole, a street light of some sort (because, to be honest, it wouldn't be the first time that would've happened)  – but assumptions are often wrong and are made without little thought.

Hyorin had actually rammed herself against a human; a human which currently stood in front of her, looking slightly dazed and confused. The impact may have done something to her head, because it took her a number of minutes to realise that the male was trying to communicate. Also she was still on the floor, looking like a complete fool. Forcing her arm through the jacket she was struggling to wear, the mess of a girl began apologising profusely before jumping up hastily, eyes wide as it dawned on her that she may already be too late.

"What's the time?"  Her voice, shaky and slightly out of control was barely a whisper, but the stranger caught the question, promptly replying. "Almost 2pm, You okay?–" An uncharacteristically loud swear slipped from her lips as she wiped her stinging palms (now slightly bloody), against her jeans. Tears threatened to spill from her blurry eyes, and she couldn't help but to feel even more frustrated about the whole situation now that her emotions decided to refuse control. It's not as though she was saddened by the fact she missed the deadline, it was just that Hyorin had a hard time dealing with any sort of feelings, so they often ended in tears. The stranger, who was looking slightly concerned, made no effort to move nor look away. As a sort of explanation, she shrugged, attempting to regain any shreds of dignity left, choking back the tears.

 "I’m out of time."

"What are you running away from?"

 Questions like that always triggered an overwhelming sense of melancholia — she could never fathom the reason behind the sudden influx of emotions, it just happened. Slumped against the wall of some dingy alleyway with her head between her knees,  she struggled to regulate her breathing; the sensation of a tightening chest made the whole process harder. Oh my god am I going to die like this? Too tight her chest was too tight and her lungs felt like they were on fire. Her vision was blurred by the tears in her eyes but she could see the stranger who had sprung the sudden inquisition.  

Why was he still standing there? Her face buried in her small hands (cheeks were burning, they warmed her palms), the tears threatening to spill at any moment. What am I running from? The people, the crowds, everything. Hyorin could, for the most part, control herself. At least she pretended as I could — as though there was a switch or button that could just switch it off. Yet sometimes it was just unbearable. Suffocating. A darkness that consumed her brain which rendered her useless, unable to verbalize anything at all – unless she began to sob. That was the worse. She struggled to comprehend what was happening, or what had happened, to her for the twenty years of her life. The only thing she understood was that it almost always felt as though she was on the brink of death.

Being questioned in the midst of a panic attack understandably worsened the situation. Here she was, freaking the fuck out about god knows what, when a hooded figure presented her with even more pain.   It crossed her mind that this time she really was dying; he must have been the grim reaper or angel of death (or some sort of death-related entity.) Death itself didn’t frightened her, life did and so did the ‘afterlife’. She pulled her hands away from her face; her palms were wet with tears. It was only then that it hit her that she had been sobbing, no no, not sobbing – weeping (for how long? she couldn’t pinpoint an exact moment when the waterworks had started). They were uncontrollable and irrepressible and was entwined with a single word, repeated over and over in arbitrary intervals: “Everything. Everything. Everything. ” She was afraid of everything.

Situation: in an ambulance.Sentence: "Stop! That tickles!".

Today was no different. With an intense migraine, dry mouth and runny nose, she alternated from burying herself under an avalanche of blankets to stripping down in her underwear as she shoved her head in the freezer. Growing increasingly irritated by her condition, especially her leaking nose, ( she’d pretty much had given up and shoved two wads of tissue paper each nostril ) Hyorin decided to finally get out of the apartment and locate her only salvation: a pharmacy.

She didn’t make it half way before stumbling upon the buoyant Nueneu, who naturally took it upon herself to tease Hyorin about her new ‘look’; only she would leave her home with clumps of tissues up her nose and a pair of tatty old bear slippers . But when she received no reaction, her usual sharp tongue immediately softened in apprehension — a shock to the pair.

Nue gripped onto the arm of the woozy wreck, obvious concern clouding her features. Hyorin opened her mouth, attempting to let the other know that she was completely fine for god knows what reason. She was far too light-headed to even stand let alone talk. And queasy. In a matter of seconds, the sight of the other female's distressed grimace had been replaced; a darkness engulfing her vision.

It smelt like vanilla. Nue's hair that is, of course. Extremely disoriented, Hyorin cracked open an eye; she saw her friend standing over her. She smiled weakly, only for a split second before squeezing her eyes shut once again. The splitting headache was excruciating but the comfort of knowing she wasn't alone outweighed everything else. Her long dark hair brushed against Hyorin's cheek as the vehicle halted momentarily  A vehicle, she assumed. Most probably an ambulance, right? It jolted once again, and Nueneu's hair tickled her nose. Hyorin's voice cracked slightly as a weak whisper slipped from her lips. "Stop! That tickles!" Laughing in relief, the other female proceeded to punch her arm ( lightly, of course, she wasn't completely heartless. ) "Is that any better?" A grin spread across her face. " Much better. It's cooler in here."

Hyorin hated the summer, but could you really lame her?

When did your last hug take place? When I first came back to Korea, It must have been then. Grandma didn’t know hugs weren’t suitable. 

Are you a jealous person? There’s nothing to be jealous about. 

Are you tired right now? I feel slightly like I should be napping, so maybe yes.

Do you chew on your straws? Oh yes, I do.

Have you ever been called a tease? Not that I’m aware of.

Have you ever been awake for 48 hours straight? Often, when I’m reading a series of books or having a movie marathon. Sleeping can get in the way of thing. 

Do you cry easily? I often get teary-eyed but I only ever cry if the cinematography, acting and dialogue is on point. Other wise no tears.

What should you be doing right now? Nothing in particular.

Are you a heavy sleeper? I’m unaware of my sleeping state. I’ve never had to opportunity to test it I’m ‘heavy’ or ‘light’ at sleeping.

Do you think you can last in a relationship for 6 months? I can’t answer this as I have no grasp on what ‘lasting in a relationship’ means.

Are you mad at someone right now? I’m never mad.

Do you believe in love? I don’t give it much thought, probably not though.

What makes you laugh no matter what? Monty Python and the Holy Grail & The Hangover. 

Who was the last person you talked to? An unknown person - most likely human - who lost their male purse.

Do you get butterflies around the person you like? I don’t like anyone. I don’t dislike anyone. 

Will you get married? I hope not! 

When was the last time you smiled? A few moments ago whilst watching Kamikaze Girls.

Does anyone like you? I’m sure my Grandmother is fond of me, and maybe Grandfather too. 

Do you secretly like someone? I read online that the perks of being a wallflower is horrible overrated but unfortunately I can’t help but to enjoy both the book and the film. Logan Lerman is still a growing actor but I really loved his portrayal of Charlie.

Who was the first person you talked to today? My film studies Professor. 

Who do you feel most comfortable talking to about anything? The walls in my apartment. 

What are you NOT looking forward to? Finishing Uni. 

What ARE you looking forward to? Watching movies.

Has someone of the opposite sex ever told you they loved you, and meant it? Grandfather? 

Suppose you see your ex kissing another person what would you do? I’m not in possession of any exes. 

Do you plan on moving out within the next year? No.

Are you a forgiving person? I haven’t had to forgive.

Do you fall for people easily? No.

Have you ever fallen for your ex’s best friend? I’ve had neither of those things.

How late did you stay up last night and why? I read until I finished the book ‘Out’ and that was at roughly 5am.

If you could move somewhere else, would you? I don’t care much for where i’m living.

Can you live a day without TV? That’s not living. 

When was the last time you were extremely disappointed? After reading ‘The fault in our stars’. And actually, after watching it as well. The only redeemable part was Isaac.

What is your all-time favorite romance movie? About time.

What’s your current problem? My Aunt thinks i’m odd and refuses to stop pestering me and my Father. My speech slips out in an odd way apparently, and I don’t have a consistent thinking flow. Brain flow? Just thinking about it makes my mind go on overdrive and now i’m rambling….

Have you ever had your heart broken? No.

Your thoughts of long distance relationships? I have no thoughts on short distance or long distance or just relationships in general. 

How many kids do you want to have? I hardly think this is a suitable question for strangers. What if this question was presented to a person who couldn’t have children. Don’t you think it would sting? You lack tact. 

Have you ever found it hard to tell someone you like them? Never been presented with this issue.
