his-andor-hers
“Oh, man, this sucks!” Tucker growled from somewhere deep in his chest, turning to glare at Church, pointing at the door angrily. “We shouldn’t fucking be in here ‘strategizing,’ man! We have to go out and look for her!”
Church sighed deeply, scanning the large map on the wall. The heist room was good for many a thing, but it was most useful for locations. Whether they were planning something huge or just simply trying to find the nearest tattoo shop, they went into the heist room to check the map. “Shut up, Tucker, I’m tryin’ to think,” he said sharply, crossing his arms.
“Fuck that! She could be dead or dying right now, we don’t have time to sit on our asses and play with our dicks all day, we need to--”
“Tucker,” Church nearly spat, digging his nails into his forearms. He closed his eyes, inhaling deeply through his nose and turning his head away from the map. “We can’t just go in, guns blazing. We do that, one of us could be dead or dying.”
Tucker leaned towards him, clenching his hands into fists. “She is one of us.”
Grif piped up from the back of the room, putting his cigarette out on the bottom of his shoe. “Church is right,” he said, sticking the butt into the pocket of his shirt. When Tucker turned on him incredulously, he shrugged. “Look, brah, if you wanna go get her yourself, I’ll give you the keys to the Warthog right now. But I’m not going out there, blind, and getting myself killed.” Tucker just shook his head angrily and looked away. “You said it yourself. Nobody likes a hero.”
Simmons just sighed and nodded in agreement. “Tucker, we need a plan.”
“We don’t have time for a plan,” Tucker said again, through clenched teeth.
“Yeah, but...” Caboose wrapped his arms tightly around himself, shrugging helplessly. “We still need one.” He didn’t like the idea of waiting any longer to go find their friend either. “Plan time has to go before rescue time, Tucker.”
Donut watched Tucker carefully, before sighing and holding his hand out to Grif. “I’ll take those keys,” he said somberly. When Grif looked up at him like he was insane, the other Red just smiled a bit, the stretch of his mouth causing his scars to crinkle up on the right side of his face, where dimples used to be. “I know what I’m doing,” he insisted with a wave of his hand. “You don’t need to worry about me.”
“Are you boys sure you want to do this?” Sarge asked slowly, furrowing his eyebrows at Donut as he took the keys to the Warthog from Grif and patted Tucker’s shoulder. “There’s no tellin’ that either of you gets out alive.”
“We have to do something,” Donut said confidently, looking around at the crew. Glancing down at Tucker, who just nodded at him gratefully, the farmboy sighed. “I guess we should--”
Church cut him off, staring at the map as if it was the only thing in the room. “Don’t say goodbye,” he ordered flatly, adjusting his arms. “Just go. We’ll call if we think of anything. See you later.” He swallowed thickly, still refusing to look at them and repeating his last words over in his head several times, trying to convince himself that he would, in fact, see them again. That everything would turn out fine, despite how completely fucking stupid the pair was being.
They’d be fine. They always were.
Tucker and Donut had left without another word, running into the garage and pulling out in the jeep. Deciding that their best bet was to start by searching the surrounding area, Tucker turned down whatever stupid polka music Sarge always had playing on the damn radio, and prepared to speed down the road.
“Wait, stop!” Donut shouted, grabbing hold of the steering wheel.
Tucker yelled in surprise, lifting his hands and feet away from anything that would affect the car. “What?! What?”
“Look!”
He couldn’t fucking believe it. Looking where Donut was pointing, Tucker’s mouth fell open in relieved shock. Ryan was walking down the street, helping Raven walk. She was alive, but she was hurt. That was fine. If she lived to complain about it, she still lived. “Holy fuck,” Tucker sighed, jumping out of the Warthog. “Park this thing, okay?”
Tucker ran up to the two of them, taking Raven’s arm and carefully draping it over his neck, helping her up the stairs to the base. “What the hell happened?” he asked, out of breath. Looking up at Ryan he asked immediately after, “Where’d you find her?”
